New Quattro FX squeaks and hose dettaches

Post by candle1112 » Sat May 18, 2013 11:13 am

I just went from the Mirage FX for Her nasal mask to the Quattro FX (DME didn't have the female version) this week to see if it would help me with mouth breathing so I wouldn't have to tape my mouth. The mask is surprisingly comfortable and doesn't hurt my nose bridge. However, I'm having 2 issues with the hose attachment portion. The first one is that the hose attachment elbow squeaks very loudly when it rotates which is not a pleasant sound in the middle of the night when I turn from back to side to back to side. The 2nd problem is that the hose detachment portion detaches 1 or 2 times a night right where it is designed to snap off. So my 2 questions are:
  • 1. Squeaking -- Does anyone have an issue with squeaks at the hose attachment portion and what lubricant is safe to use on the mask so that it poses no danger when it is breathed in
    2. Why is the hose detachment portion, detaching unexpectedly in the middle of the night. I snap it on tightly, but do I have to turn or do something else to make it stay in place?
I'm so happy that this forum exists to help us feel like we are not totally on our own with this crazy, CPAP journey we are all on.

The elbow comes out...you need to pull hard. It's unusual for it to squeek when it is new. You can clean it and/or put a drop of some lubricant where it swivils. As far as the hose goes...if it is a hose that you have been using for a while the ends may be getting stretched from putting on and taking off. Can you try a new hose?

If your not using this it can help. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... wivel.html. It's worth the$15.00. It attaches to the hose and the other end snaps onto the mask atachment.

This will help give the Quattro a real quick disconnect which I find it is missing. I really use the one on my MIrage FX all the time, especially when my two young kids come into our room when they have a bad dream. Thanks

I told the DME that it wasn't normal for it to squeak and he is calling his Resmed Rep to see if there is a problem with his shipment but it will take a while for them to replace it and I have to use the one I have till then (the other ones he had squeaked too). As far as the mask coming apart from the hose. It's not the rubber hose part that is accidentally coming apart, but the snapoff part of the elbow that is supposed to come apart when you clean it. Not sure why its not staying together during the night after I snap it together.

This part should have been included with the mask. I have two of these masks so far, and this part was attached to the mask inside a sealed bag. If the part was not included with the mask, then either the manufacturer made a mistake, or the DME took the part. Is there any chance that it was included, but fell off somewhere?

I have never experienced the squeak, but I have never used the mask without that part.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I had the same problem with squeaking when I got my first FX. In my opinion it is due to the plastic being more porous on some parts on certain samples of the mask. What ever the cause I found vegetable oil worked fine as a lubricant. See my original thread for a discussion.

For squeaking, put KY jelly around the plastic part that swivels in the mask.

Do you have to get the his and hers variety and put the appropriate one on each half?

I wondered about this myself.
