Totally Fed Up Vent

Post by Stormynights » Fri May 17, 2013 3:42 pm

I have been struggling with my own therapy and also trying to help my husband get back on his cpap. I discovered a huge difference in our apap machines. I have been having bad headaches and insomnia for months. When I switched machines with my husband it was easier keeping him on the hose but now he is having headaches and insomnia and I am not. I can't figure out why a change of machine would cause insomnia or stop it.

I finally got insurance and thought all would go easier now. Boy was I wrong. I just got a letter from my insurance that they are refusing to pay for a new sleep study that my doctor ordered. Don't get me wrong I didn't really want a new sleep study I just want equipment that works properly. My doctor thought I should be changed to bipap. The reason my insurance denied the claim is because they say there is no evidence of worsening of sleep apnea. How would I know? Is my machine defective or what? I am ready to just throw in the towel but I am miserable without my machine. Dealing with insurance and DME is a headache in it's self.

As I am reading what I just wrote I think I sound like a crazy person and should probably just delete it and forget the whole thing. Does anyone have any ideas? I think I just need to buy a machine myself and forget about the insurance and DME.

It's probably too simple but you are using clean filters, right?

Thank you for the reply. I even use those inline filters.

Hi Stormynights,

Can your doctor write an appeal to the insurance company? Many times, they do anything they can to avoid paying for stuff but will eventually do so when doctors get involved.

No, you're not a crazy person as you are acting normally to very aggravating circumstances.

I am thinking now that I probably don't need a bipap and I was just having problems with a defective machine. I am also afraid with the new Medicare guidelines They might say I don't even need cpap. That would be my luck.

Do you understand what Insomnia is, and if yes, how could a change of machine start or stop it?

Another question: do you assume that reading your posts while being disturbed by that silly Avatar would help you?
I am sure you are right. I am sorry I posted. Please forgive me.

It really sounds like a defective machine. You both have the same one, right? I know you posted about that, but I can't remember. Is one of the machines still pretty new? Maybe there is outgassing going on from some of the components? I know there was an odor with mine the first night, but that seemed to dissipate pretty quickly. Hmmm... I just realized that could have been one of the reasons I was having trouble the first few nights on the new machine! Maybe the odor was still there, but just not really obvious. Anyway... just throwing some things out and the headaches makes me think that is a possibility. I hope you get it figured out soon!

Ignore avi123! A change of machine could very definitely cause insomnia if there is something wrong, especially if it is also causing headaches somehow! The insomnia could be the result of the headaches.

Hi Stomynights!

Your post makes absolute sense to me. Dr. Krakow has found that insomnia directly relates to respiratory related arousals. Each machine affects our respiratory systems in a different way since the algorithms are indeed different. Yours is not the only post bringing up the subject of a very different result with a different machine.

I think you understand very well what you are talking about and have related it well.

Have a great week!

Todzo,

I checked Dr Barry Krakow book on Insomnia being effected by type of PAP machine and I have realized that you have twisted Dr Krakow's writing on it to suit your "taste. Dr Krakow wrote completely different content on it. See it here:

You been posting twisted scientific data for a least a year. Do you remember, Muffy, at that time gave you hell for it and even called you .........?

Stormy

I had a machine for months that was not even blowing. I though it was great until I realized I was snoring. I thought I had finally found a machine and mask that worked and did not leak much or blow like a horn. I got a new machine and the hurricane started again.

Both machines are about 2 years old. I am pretty sure mine was working fine when I got it but over time it went wonky. I am sure I would have noticed a problem with it at first. I started feeling really crappy and that is why my doctor ordered the new sleep study. It wasn't until I tried a different machine that I noticed a problem. I don't think it suddenly happened. I think the problem just grew over time.
