Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
I swapped machines with my husband because he had so much trouble adjusting to this therapy. When I changed machines it went so easy for him but I struggled with his machine for a few nights. I see a huge difference in the two machines. I have the Resmed S9 and he has a PR System !. I am just curious about the results of this poll. Please vote and describe your experience.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
I don't think brand has as much to do with it as the patient, the provider and the mask(s).

I had a PR and Resmed machine. I instantly adjusted to the Resmed. Not the same for the PR.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
My husband struggled with the PR, unlike me on the s9. Now he has a ResMed and is off sleeping pills. He thinks he is a sensitive sleeper, and possibly the PR pulses woke him up. I don't want to find out, so I just bought a s9 battery convertor from our host, in case of power outage. My battery will not provide the hours on the s9, but my husband thinks I will not like the PR.

I don't see the machine as a major factor, Number one would be attitude (Can Do Type), then a full function machine with software, !st mask FF, so mouthleaks won't cause treatment failure, later if you want to try nasal, use the software to check for mouthleaking.
Instead your are given a Dumb machine, not told about data, given a nasal mask so you will mouthleak your way to failure, no help from the Dr. or DME, just their hand in you pocket. No wonder so many are paddling in De-Nile! Jim
Most things in this world, require personal effort to succeed, XPAP is one of them, but well worth it.

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
adjustment was impossible with a PR apap machine over months of trying. Once i went over to a bipap machine it became doable, almost immediately.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
I'm not quite sure how to vote! I wouldn't call my adjustment "easy", but it hasn't really been that much of a struggle. I'm kind of in between. It actually was easier than I thought it would be. I really didn't think I would be able to adjust at all as I'm pretty picky about things touching me when I sleep, but I was determined to make it work and sleep with that thing stuck to my face!. However, I'm not sure how I would feel right now if it hadn't been for this forum and I am grateful to my DME for telling me about it! I would probably be feeling pretty frustrated and would have no idea why I wasn't adjusting to the new machine, even though it was the same brand. I also doubt that I would have tried a different mask at my sleep study. So, it hasn't been just the machine... there were a number of factors in my adjustment, all of which helped to make it easier than it might have been.

I started with a F & P "dumb" machine and I adjusted very quickly. I used it for 4 years and the only thing I gained with my new S9 was data. The F & P was just as quiet.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
My husband has asked me every day to increase his pressure with the Resmed S9. With the PR 1 he kept saying the pressure was too high. I am going to take both machines in tomorrow to see if they will check the pressures. I just wanted to see if there was a normal difference in the two machines. From my pole it looks about the same. Thank you all for helping me figure this out.

This poll is flawed and biased towards the S9 because the majority of members here have the S9. The results are meaningless. They make it appear that the S9 is a far superior machine and makes adjustment to the machine much easier. I don't believe that is the case.

One would need a poll for people who have actually had a chance to compare and use both brands and there's not many of those people around.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
I have used 2 brands of machines in the 12 years I have been using cpap (the Respironics - as it was called - then it became the Philips Respironics. My first machine was a basic cpap and then I moved to the auto.
I now use the Intellipap Autoadjust. It didn't even make the poll. Turns out, of the 2, the Intellipap suits my breathing pattern the best.
I nave never used a Resmed machine.
For a number of years now I have had data and see that I do very well and get excellent therapy. I do feel better during the day and have since I began. I have used many different masks in that time as well.
My adjustment was extremely easy (although my sleep studies - I have had 2 - were terrible nights. I have never had any difficulty with either machine really and have never removed a mask in my sleep. It simply became part of my night. I have slept through the night, with the machine and mask from night 1 - almost 12 years ago.

Re: Adjustment by brand of machine? (Poll)
First, I kind of agree that the premise is not well defined for a meaningful poll.
I've used the following Resmed units: S7 Auto, S8 auto, S9 bi-, and now the auto s9 ASV/Adapt. Adapting to the Autos was not a problem, but LEAKS were.
I'm a big believer in auto-titrating xPAP. When I finally got on the Adapt, I got the first real decent treatment in almost 2 years.
I think the best factors are DATA and the Auto machines, and more importantly, the help from CPAPTALK have all made my treatment successful. I think that those factors are more significant than most any other factor except for mask choice. As some of you know, I started with SleepWeaver soft cloth nasal mask, and though leak prone, it probably got me through the year and half until I put myself on the ASV.
