Rainout and CPAP Machine On The Floor

Post by pikov22 » Thu May 09, 2013 5:44 pm

I've had a little rainout the past couple of nights -- possibly due to the increased ambient humidity, so I did a little research.

Aside from getting a tube heater, the seems to be "place the CPAP lower than your head".

Up to now, it' s been just a few inches above my head so tonight I"m going to put it on the floor.

Any comments? Thanks.

Where's the rain out occurring at? Just in the nasal pillows? If so, it may not matter where you place the machine because it is from the moisture in your own exhaled breath.

If it's in the long hose then you can use gravity to help keep the water flowing downhill and back into the humidifier.

It's in the long hose.

So you agree that floor placement is OK?

We have wicker night stands next to the bed. I cut out the back of the drawer and slid it in there. If you set it on the floor all the dust is at floor level and the tube will be to short to allow you to move during the night.

I one of those strange people that likes to read user manuals and mine said the machine should be below head height. I have a footstool between the bed and my cabinet where I place the machine, it leaves plenty of hose and its high enough off the floor so it doesn't suck in the dust etc.

I'm using the custom stand that came with my ResMed S8.

It's the shipping carton turned on its side and placed between the bed and nightstand.

Your "custom" stand sounds interesting

I have a little cabinet on wheels. I keep my mask and small supplies in the top drawer, and my machine in the second drawer. It's only a few inches lower than my bed, and it keeps my machine protected from excess dust. It also allows a good length of hose as I prefer to sleep facing toward the center of the bed and away from the machine. I keep the drawer open while using it and close the drawer during the day.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I can compensate for the dust by washing the filter more frequently.
Tube length is not a problem, especially since my son gave me his old 10' tube in its own "sweatshirt".

Have you tried turning the thermostat up a notch? Just heating the ambient temperature will usually do the trick.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I've been CPAPing for 16 months, my machine has been on the floor all that time, rainout hasn't been an issue, nor has dust, I do have a heated hose though.
Cheers,

Mick.
