I'm getting a machine!

Post by sawinglogz » Thu May 09, 2013 9:38 am

What a relief!

The sleep lab & dr. got my prescription to the DME in time for a set-up appointment before I go on vacation! I'll have time to get used to it, time to take naps as needed, and maybe even get a little rest while on vacation.

The only question I have is that they said it comes with a travel bag, which surprised me. She said she didn't remember which: one looks like a big lunch bag (I'm guessing ResMed), and the other looks like a computer bag (PR?). I'm flying out the morning after they come out to set everything up, so I'm kinda stuck if they end up not bringing it.

Does it sound right that they'd provide a travel bag for the PR ASV?

Yes, a travel bag is pretty much standard with both the ResMed and the Respironics. All models.

ResMed is flatter and looks larger as in more of a square.
Respironics is taller and looks more like a lunch box thing.

The Respironics travel bag will fit quite nicely under the seat in front of you on airplane.

So one is taller and one is flatter...neither is a problem...both easy to deal with.

So if they're pretty much standard, why does our host sell them? It seems like there wouldn't be much of a market...

Is there anything else I should prep before my trip? I'll get distilled water once we arrive, but is there anything obvious that I'm missing?

Anything I should ask the RT at my appointment?

When you pack it in the travel bag make sure you put the parts in Zip-lock bag so the TSA don't get their paws all over it. Also ask them to put on fresh gloves before they go through your stuff.

They wear out maybe from lots of travel? Dog gets a hold of one. Maybe bought the machine from secondary market where the travel case wasn't offered? Any number of reasons really.

While they are part of a standard package when items are bought together not all people buy everything together.

What size zip-lock do I need? Is a 1-gallon large enough, or do I need 2-gallon bags?

How hard is it to disassemble & reassemble the blower + humidifier?

Super easy once you remember which little spot on the humidifier to push to disengage things. I don't do it often so I always seem to forget.
Putting it together..1 second maybe...it's super super easy.

My travel machine is a PR S1 machine and the travel case allows for it to be transported all attached. So I don't really need to take it apart but it isn't hard to do at all. There's a quick release little thingy (don't know what its official name is) you just press and the humidifier is released from the blower. It's really a non issue and easy and quick.

Mostly you want to put the hose & mask in a Ziplock bag. So 1 gallon would probably work.
If you do want to put the machine in bag (may be over kill???) it is probably about 18"x8"x5" or so fully assembled.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, pack the machine with water in the humidifier. I'm sure you know that, but it's easy to forget. I take the chamber out and pack it in a separate zip bag just as a "checks and balances" against my own goofs.

Good idea. I like routines with built-in safeguards.

So I'll put the chamber, hose, & mask in a zip-lock. The rest I won't worry about.
