Card Readers
Card Readers
I'm not the most technical person. I have a Resmed S9 machine. Is there any difference in buying a Resmed Card Reader versus just a card reader?

Re: Card Readers
I didn't know there was a Resmed card reader for SD cards... There used to be one for their data cards with the S8 machines, though.
A $10 SD card reader from Target or Walmart or wherever is all you need.

Re: Card Readers
Any generic card reader/adapter will work if your computer doesn't have a slot for the SD card.
If there is a slot then no card reader is needed.

Re: Card Readers, smart card reader
SD card reader is simple since every laptop has this build-in reader. I have Respironic cpap and using smart card reader (the size as credit card with a chip). I bought Iogear smart card reader with driver GRS202 but don't know why it can not read my Repironic smart card ? Do I have to buy smart card reader from Repironics? Anyone has experience with Iogear smart card reader?
Re: Card Readers
The Respironics Encore Smart Card requires a very special card reader.danielqk wrote:I have Respironic cpap and using smart card reader (the size as credit card with a chip). This is the only one that will work with that smart card.
DT3500 Infineer from Mako
No other smart card will work as far as I have ever known.
Respironics doesn't sell them anyway but you do have to use this one particular card reader. This is what we used with the M series and older Respironics machines.

Re: Card Readers
Thanks Pugsy, I think all physical smart card readers are identical. Repironics made their own drivers for their machines and these drivers are stored in the chip which automatic loaded when
inserting the card into reader.

Re: Card Readers
Well Encore does install the DT3500 card reader software with their software and not the others.danielqk wrote: I think all physical smart card readers are identical. Repironics made their own drivers for their machines and these drivers are stored in the chip which automatic loaded when

So unless you can get the software to recognize the other reader's drivers software you are going to have problems.
Otherwise the software doesn't know where to look.
Respironics has always used the DT3500 for as long as I have know.
So it's the software that wants to use the DT3500.
If you can make your card reader work that is wonderful but in the past years no one else has been able to get it done.

Re: Card Readers
All smart card readers are not identical. The communication protocols they use vary.
I know that the ResMed smart card reader was made by ACS. They stopped making that specific model.
It was the ACR-38U, if I recall. Other versions of the ACR-38 will not work.
If you post a request on the forum, you might find someone who had an older Respironics machine and
still has the card reader laying around, and is willing to sell or donate it to you.

Re: Card Readers
Pianokay has an S9 machine. The card is an SD card, which should work with any SD card reader or any computer with an SD slot.
Resmed places their sticker on the card, but it means nothing, other than their BS.

Re: Card Readers
I only tried using the card reader once, and it downloaded the info ok on my rescan program I had downloaded, but then when I put the card back in the machine, it said something about an error, and had to delete info on the card which I did. Pugsy told me that my DME could put the info back on the card, as know it is still recorded on the machine. I was just wondering if the problem I had was because I used a "generic" card reader, but sounds like it wasn't the problem. I haven't tried it again, which guess I should do. Thanks

Re: Card Readers
That problem with the SD card and the S9 machines seems to be a fairly common problem and we don't know why.pianokay wrote: but then when I put the card back in the machine, it said something about an error, and had to delete info on the card which I did.
Sometimes when using the SD card to download to the software the SD card contents changes and them when putting the SD card back into the S9 machine then the machine sees something out of place or shouldn't be there and it rejects the SD card until you erase the card. This has happened with a few Mac computers but has not been limited to Macs. A few Windows users have had it happen also. It has even happened when the DME reads the SD card and returns them to the patient.

Re: Card Readers
You might try write protecting the SD card before inserting it into the computer's reader. That will
stop the computer from altering the card.
You'll just have to be careful to remove the write protection before reinserting the card into
the S9.

Sorry. What do you mean by "write protecting". How do I do this?
