Old problems but new for me

Post by pianokay » Sun Apr 21, 2013 4:52 pm

I am having some issues with sneezing, blowing nose a lot, and other questions. Just wanted to remind other newbies that you can use the search tool to view previous posts on issues that may be bothering you. Just finished 3 months on CPAP and adjusting pretty well. My main complaint is I still waken during the night usually 1x for sure, sometimes 2x for bathroom and had hoped that would stop. Have slept maybe 3 nights without getting up any. However, my husband says I'm sleeping much sounder, a lot less moving around. The Dr. prescribed a mouthpiece for him to minimize his snoring, which prevented me from going to sleep. He tried wearing it, but since I'm sleeping better, have let him just forget it as he never wore it more than 2 hours per night tops. Have called the Dr. to ask if that was the only reason he prescribed it, as if it is not going to waste any more money, on office calls for that problem. At the time I think I was so stunned at my diagnose, really didn't know what questions to ask. I didn't have many of the classic symptoms of those needing CPAP but must admit although I didn't have an instant moment of feeling dramatically better, I can now tell I have much more energy and sometimes come 10 PM and I just don't even feel tired yet. This issue has been the medical issue that has made me determined to lose weight to see if it will help. I have lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks using WW online. Only another 80 to go. I realize I may still need CPAP, but I'm feeling better just losing the first 10. Thanks everyone for your help.

Has your husband been tested for sleep apnea?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Yes, my husband was tested for sleep apnea and although his RDI was 32.3 he only prescribed the mouth guard. He is a mouth breather and it drove him nuts as his mouth would get so dry. He tried a couple of products they (the dentist) suggested he try but didn't really help. He did have a lot of limb movement in his study. Maybe we need to keep his appointment and discuss this more with the Dr. At the time of our office call following the study, we both knew so little about the whole issue that you hardly knew what to ask. I wish now we had questioned him more as to what his reasoning was for the mouth piece. Thanks for your help.

When I took my sleep study I had a lot of leg movement. Never had this prior to the study. In my case it was that my B-12 was low. I also had very little energy. B-12 shot and later pills fixed the problem.
