Taking apap on a driving trip
On May 1st we're driving from Toronto to Winnipeg. It takes 3 days to get there. (Yes, the province of Ontario is huge. It takes most of that 3 days just to get across it, lol.) Of course, I'll be taking my apap with me. But I'm wondering if the machine has the capacity to keep its time-of-day settings while being unplugged all day long. We'll be driving for at least 8 hours per day, probably more like 10 or 12 hours each day, so the machine won't be plugged in until we get to the hotel/motel at around 5 or 6 pm each night.

Yes, I've done this many times, and no problem with the internal clock. Don't worry, have a good time *smile*.

Bring an extension cord. The outlets in many motels are not in easily accessible places.

make sure the extension cord is a big one... not one of those thin-standard kind.LSAT wrote:Bring an extension cord. The outlets in many motels are not in easily accessible places.

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
Amperage ratings are on the cords; look for one rated well above your machine and humidifier combined.
It will cost more, but is well worth the money.

Bring a preflight checklist so you do not forget a key part.

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
Oh thank you, everyone! That's one less thing to worry about.
I did travel overnight with it once before. Not with this machine, which I own, but with the trial machine during the first month. I read up here back then, (8 months ago) and took your great suggestions, and did take along a long extension cord. What a good idea that was! Even though it was a Holiday Inn Express in a fairly new building with lots of amenities, the wall plugs by the night table were all being used by lamps and clock/radio. So without that extension cord, I would not have been able to run my machine at all. It was a very long extension cord, and a good thing too, because the closest plug was in a far corner. I did not bring a power bar with a surge protector though. That's a very good idea too. Thank you, Linus.
Chunkyfrog: Where would I find the amperage information for the machine and humidifier? Would I add those two numbers together? Or what? (I just took a regular thin extension cord last time ... didn't think to take anything more industrial, lol)

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
If your ResMed has a power brick (like my PRS1), then the amperage will be on the brick and you don't need to consider the humidifier separately (unless it has its own bricK)...
Make sure to wear the APAP while driving so if you fall asleep while driving it's a safe sleep!
Just Kidding, of course!!

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
LOL ...
I just went and looked on the power brick. It's the standard one that comes with the ResMed machine. Couldn't figure out which number means what, so I wrote it all down:
ResMed 90W AC Adapter ..... 1PX1
Model No. R360-760 (DA-90A24)
AC output: 100-240V ~ 50-60 Hz, 110 V - 400 Hz, 1.0 - 1.5 A
DC output: +24 V --- 3.75A
So .... where is the amp listing in all that stuff?

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
In red above. It's 1 to 1.5A. Probably 1A at 100, 1.5A at 240 (though usually it'd be closer to double). 1Amp is pretty low, I'd be surprised if you need a special extension for that. As long as you don't use a Xmas light string (!!)ReadyforRest wrote:LOL ...

BTW, the 3.75A listing is the current drawn at 24V. You're interested in the current drawn from AC, so 1 - 1.5

Re: Taking apap on a driving trip
Okay, so now I just looked at the extension cord I took before. It says 13 A, and 1625 W. I'm assuming that's the maximum amperage and wattage it will support?

And on the very top, in big, bold letters, write, "Empty Humidifier" as the first order of business.
I almost packed mine without emptying it. That would have been tragic.
