I've been trying to adjust to this stupid machine since the end of March. Haven't had a full night's sleep, but maybe once. Lately it's been back to how it was before the machine. I've got 348.8 hours on it... only 34 times with more than 4 hour stretches.
I'm losing weight... have lost almost 10 pounds since the study, trying to lose a lot more... it's hard when I don't sleep well.
Finally got on the phone this morning as I have a few days off, DME's ordering me an Auto... hopefully this works, think that it's just a trial right now to see if it'll make some difference. I also requested and just need to go and pick up a copy of the sleep study and a copy of the perscription that was sent directly to the DME.
I have a suspicion that my pressure's wrong... I was having the beginnings of an asthma attack during my study and barely slept there. I also requested that my CFLEX be turned off because I feel like I'm hyperventilating on it.
I'm hoping that some of this will work, otherwise I'm going to start trying to mess with stuff myself.
Question for somebody... is there a kind of apnea that CPAP won't work for? See my dad has apnea problems but can't remember if he was told what kind it was... I'm kind of wondering if that may be what's going on with me??
Still not adjusting to this thing
cflame1,
I take it you're not monitoring your therapy with software.....? Your profile indicates that you have the Pro 2, which is capable of giving your nightly statistics.
It would (also) be my guess that your pressure may be wrong and/or you're leaking air out your mouth. Again, software would tell you what's going on.
Best wishes,
Den

Re: Still not adjusting to this thing
Many of us here have already concluded that the best path to effective therapy is for us to individually monitor and adjust our therapy as necessary. This is not rocket science, and studies have shown that patients can titrate themselves as good as or better than the sleep labs can.cflame1 wrote: . . . otherwise I'm going to start trying to mess with stuff myself.
My recommendation is to go for it . . .

Studies
Which studies are these that you refer to? Do you have references for them?

cflame,
Yes there is a type of apnea that cpap won't treat. Central Apnea requires the use of ventelator therapy, most often accomplished with at bilevel device that can perform timed ventilations ie a BiPap S/T.

Thanks for responding everybody.
I read the results of the study and was slightly surprised to find that the doc that read it admits that he has no idea why I didn't get any REM sleep that night. That he is only guessing at what pressure to set it at.
Supposedly I had 100 events an hour, 11 obstructive and 95 hypopneas.
At least with the two items from the doctor's office if I can find something that works... and get sick of the DME... I'll find another way to get it.
