Re: Lansinoh
I just purchased a tube of this at Target for 9.99 - ordered a pack of three at amazon.
Question. . .does this hurt the silicon in the nazal pillow? Or do I need to make sure I wipe the pillows down or wash them with soap immediately the next morning?
I had no leaks last night. . .cool beans. Thank you, Pugsy!

Re: Lansinoh
What a great product! I use a FF mask, and put it on my lips every night to keep them moist. Great on cuticles, eyebrows -- but I wouldn't use it on my face. If I'm not careful about nighttime cleansing regimen, I will develop acne from the mask straps.

Petroleum products are thought to be bad for the silicone as it can shorten the life but the Lansinoh is pure lanolin and we've been recommending it and using it for years and years and I have never seen anyone say that there was a problem.quietmorning wrote:does this hurt the silicon in the nazal pillow? I don't use is so much now but back when I did and I just washed my nasal pillows once a week I didn't have any problems.
General consensus is that there is no harm to the silicone.

Re: Lansinoh
As a caution for those using Lansinoh for the first time:
There are some people who cannot use lanolin due to allergens.
some of which have been removed in purification--but not all (YMMV)
Others will not use it due to religious or moral objections to animal products.
They may have to consider a plant-based product, many of which may enjoy
more promotion than testing. Proceed cautiously, and good luck.

Re: Lansinoh
Specifically, people who are allergic to wool may not be able to use Lansinoh. Although there is some controversy about this. It might be the wool alcohols in wool to which they are allergic, and I don't know if Lansinoh has had the wool alcohols extracted:chunkyfrog wrote:As a caution for those using Lansinoh for the first time:

An additional note of caution: it is apparently possible to develop an allergy to wool by prolonged exposure to wool, so you might be able to develop an allergy to wool by prolonged exposure to Lansinoh. It's true that the amount of Lansinoh you would use on your nose is very small, but you're using it near a mucous membrane for eight hours a night, night in, night out. It's the same process, as I understand it, by which people develop nickel allergies from the base metal in post earrings (which are very small).
I've always been a little hesitant to use Lansinoh for this reason.
ETA: OK, here is what the manufacturer of Lansinoh itself claims about allergies on their FAQ page:
http://www.lansinoh.com/product-group/general-faqs (emphasis added)[Q.]I am allergic to lanolin/wool, can I use Lansinoh HPA Lanolin? How is that possible?
[A.] That is a logical question as there is some confusion about this issue.
What is often considered an allergy to wool is actually a contact dermatitis that results from irritation from the wool fiber itself or dyes in the wool as they interact with the skin. Lanolin, on the other hand, is a by-product of wool washing - the wool is washed and the raw wool grease undergoes a series of refinements that results in our ultra pure lanolin, which is an entirely different material than wool.
Lansinoh HPA Lanolin was developed especially for breastfeeding mothers, and is refined by a patented process to remove impurities. There are many refinements of lanolin in the market and only Lansinoh HPA Lanolin is safe for use by mother and baby. It is the only lanolin available that has had environmental impurities (including pesticide residues) and allergenic components (including detergent residues) filtered to an extremely low level or removed.
Additionally, Lansinoh HPA Lanolin does not contain preservatives or additives of any kind (including BHT). People, who consider themselves allergic to wool and may have avoided Lanolin in the past, will be happy to know that they can use Lansinoh HPA Lanolin with confidence.
In the over 20 years that Lansinoh has been available, the company is not aware of a single documented case of an allergic reaction to Lansinoh HPA Lanolin.

Re: Lansinoh
Hello All,
Wow! Super awesome, I have a client who has been trying to use nasal pillows for a while and it turns out that's the only interface that works.
Making a note now. Will make the recommendation and see what happens. Based on everyone's feedback so far, this is going to be very interesting.
Thanks for posting this!

Re: Lansinoh
I used Lansinoh when I had a bad case of CPAP windburn, it works like a charm! Just make sure you wash it off your face really well and you shoudn't have a problem with acne breakouts.

Re: Lansinoh
I tried Lansinoh for three nights. I immediately liked how sticky it is - it really holds my nasal pillows in place. The first night, however, it got a little itchy. . .so I thought it was just warm in the room and I was probably a little sweaty under the nasal pillow or something. The second night was cooler - and I was comfortable, not warm. My nose got itchy again, but not unreasonably so, so I just adjusted my mask and gave myself a good rub - and went back to sleep. Little did I know that that 'rub' pretty much took off the Lansinoh so that it did not help my nasal pillows stay sealed any longer. The THIRD night. . .oh my. . .immediately I went to itch city - and stayed there. And it didn't just itch a little - it totally ripped into my nose like I had one big hive square in the middle of my face. Ack. The itching didn't stop until mid afternoon the next day - even after washing my face.
So. I guess that was the end of that.
I'm on the hunt now, for something that's just that kind of sticky that doesn't have an allergy attached to it. . . any suggestions? I thought about Tac Gel, but it has alcohol in it.

Re: Lansinoh
Slartybartfast swore by KY lubricating gel..he says when it dries it gets "tacky"...now I always had a weird feeling about using THAT lubricant obviously meant for other uses...in my nose. And since a tube of Lansinoh will last years I never had any real need to try anything else. So I can't swear it works but he swears by it and so have some others...if it doesn't work...well ....unless you are allergic to it...it probably won't go to waste.quietmorning wrote:I'm on the hunt now, for something that's just that kind of sticky that doesn't have an allergy attached to it. . . any suggestions?
