Solution to Qauttro FX FF mask riding up into eyes. Chk NEW?
Re: Solution to Qauttro FX FF mask riding up into eyes.
Simply ME, so how much do you charge for a modified Quattro FX? This is my 5th mask that I have tried and the best so far, but I have the same complaints you had before the your fix. Or mayby you convince the ResMed folks to produce the Quattro SM?

Thanks for the tip! A lot of patients like the simplicity of the Quattro FX without the forehead piece but cant wear it because it rides up and leaks in their eyes. This will be a good tip I can try when fitting someone. I just need to find some old mask to make some velcro straps out of.
Thanks again!

Brilliant! I have tried this with my QFX for the last 2 nights and wow! Not only does it not ride up but the leaking has gone to almost zero!!

Great job, simplyYou! I gave up on my Quattro FX with all its squawking noises and unpredictable leaks (on my face anyway) in the middle of the night. Now I may give it another shot using your innovations. If ResMed is as smart as I think they are, they'll soon be adding your improvement options to the FX kit and, of course, give you proper recognition and $.

Re: Solution to Qauttro FX FF mask riding up into eyes.
It is just a relatively inexpensive sport or athletic type shirt, probably got it at walmart or tj-maxx store I had an older one in my drawer that was too small so it was not worn much (wishful thinking about weight loss) . It is 88% Polyester and 12% spandex. Think soft smooth stretchy fabric like bathing suits in feel. You can probably find a polyester spandex blend at any fabric store. You just want to check out the cut edge to see if it frays or runs, if it does then it might not be a good cloth since it will be cut without having a sown edge (unless you want to get all fancy…) Also a good tight weave will be best to reduce leaks through it. Then just cut to cover the area under your mask and cut a hole in the center to allow for your nose/mouth. Start smaller on inner hole as it will stretch, you can always trim more off.Insopitus wrote:Hi simply me,
Can you advise me how I should obtain the sport shirt material? Should I be looking for some kind of cotton shirt, polyester, wool, etc? What specific material do you use? Can it be obtained in a dry goods store?
I congratulate you for your great ideas.
I find it easier to hold my mask flat and set the cloth on it then place my face down into the mask, that way the cloth stays in place while putting it on. A few tugs to get any wrinkles out stops my leaks pretty well.

Glad you all like my crazy idea
Oh if only they would pay me for this idea...

Hmm? Good question not sure it would be possible to make one to fit some else? I had my face handy to check each time I trimmed a little off the mask… until it was just right. But I suppose it would be worth a try with an old mask.?.?Dan6 wrote:Simply ME, so how much do you charge for a modified Quattro FX? I cut the strap off of my old mask (which luckily I had not discarded) and tried it on my FX an it seems to work perfectly. I can't wait until tonight to give it a test run.

SimplyMe you are an inspiration to CPAP users. We both joined about the same time and I too have a Quattro FX that rides up into my eyes. I recently added a chin strap. My thoughts were my mouth was opening at night and moving the mask up. It helps a little but I really like your idea. Of course I thought of possibly bungee cords attached to the foot of the bed. A little overkill but guys have a tendency to over engineer. CPAP has improved my health over the past two months. No regrets for enduring the sleep lab twice and following doctor's orders. So instead of you complaining about the mask fit, you made your own strap. Thanks for sharing with us. You go girl!

An old well washed 100% cotton t-hirt or underwear works fine.Insopitus wrote:Hi simply me,

Another suggestion:
When I need a fabric with a specific feel, I take a "Braille trip" down the appropriate aisle down a local Goodwill store.
Cheap, and I may even find something unexpected or get a fresh idea.

I've been using this sam mask for months with no issues. Not sire what's changed but I've had the darn thing start riding up into my eyes as well. This looks like a great idea that I will be trying tonight. Thanks for sharing! Award well deserved.
Edit: found a strap and have adjusted it like you've shown here. So im ready to go tonight. Thanks simplyme!

I also seemed to have more issues with the mask riding up after a while… it seems as if the soft outer skirt gets a little floppy for lack of a better word... I have heard some on here boil masks to bring them back to life as it were, not sure how that would work. Search boiling mask for info. So far my strap is compensating for the problem but I may try boiling in the future, I would like to hang on to an older mask cushion as backup when I get a new one.Nooblakahn wrote:I've been using this sam mask for months with no issues. I'm with you, just starting out I'm trying to get stuff to last as long as I can so I can build a few backups. Wanna try the mirage quattro as a backup, but i doubt its going to replace my quattro FX. Being as I'm over a month on this seal, that makes sense.simplyme wrote:I also seemed to have more issues with the mask riding up after a while… it seems as if the soft outer skirt gets a little floppy for lack of a better word... Re: Solution to Qauttro FX FF mask riding up into eyes.
The mask riding up into my eyes has been my biggest issue with this mask. I don't have another headgear scavenge(I just have the one) but I will be hitting my sewing room to see what I can adapt to create a chinstrap for mine. Thanks so much for the idea.
