My Sleep Study (formerly known as OSA_stinks)
so I had my sleep study after my work shift on monday.
all went well, i was quite tired enough and was able to sleep just fine despite all the wires. i slept 4 hours and then i was woken up to get set up on the CPAP machine. Not sure what kind of machine it was but the mask was a resmed mirage FX i believe.
I was a little worried about being able to sleep while air is forced down my gullet, through my nose. but it turns out it was a familiar sensation. I work as a grinder/welder. We grinders use special helmets that keep the metal particles out of our face and fresh air pumped into the helmet via hose.
I had mentioned to the sleep tech that those with severe sa having hundreds of "events" at night, and i believe the sleep tech said i did not have a terribly high number. nothing above 100. . . but i think it was enough to qualify as mild... i was kinda drowsy so im not sure.
So, I only got about 2 hours of REM sleep, but I think i could tell a difference. Something was for sure different, bc i had the most vivid dream that i have had in a yeeeeeaaaaars !
So now, I await results. . . tick tock tick tock.

Actually 2 hours of REM sleep is pretty darn good. Do you know if that was mostly with or without CPAP?
When you meet with your doctor be sure to get a copy of the sleep study. I have found it invaluable in that there's a lot of information there that my doctor did not review with me. Dr. office charged me $10 for a copy. $3300 for the sleep study; extra charge for the print out. Sheesh!

I had my sleep study a week ago today. I was told that if your ahi went over 40, they stopped the test and put you on a mask. I didn't go over 40

That's some pretty stiff criteria. It was 15 AHI at my sleep study and because my sleep was so poor...I didn't make that criteria but I had some massive oxygen level drops and some might long apnea events...so I still had to come back for the titration.johnthomasmacdonald wrote:I had my sleep study a week ago today. By the time I did make criteria during the first sleep study I was out of time to even start the titration part.

I wasn't told the criteria, but the started me on the machine about 2 1/2 hours in with an ahi of 79. I'm glad they didn't stop at 40. I think being told a severe number helps to make it clear that the problem, untreated, really is severe.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: My Sleep Study (formerly known as OSA_stinks)
My sleep tech told me when he woke me up to put a mask on....that he hadn't seen numbers that high in months! 131 AHI

I remember that they said I desated down to 70 in rm air. Apparently I also had a high number of apneic events every time I went into REM I would stop breathing. I was introduced to the nasal mask about 2 hrs into my study.
I woke with the best energy level the next morning.
I love my CPAP!

Hello all!
REM sleep deprivation results in exactly what you describe at the lab. Read Dr Dement's book "Promise of sleep", it explains how sleep debt effects us and how we carry it.
Make sure to post the next step, good luck!
