is klonopin bad for sleep apnea

Post by sickwithapnea17 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 3:01 pm

I've heard some doctors say that klonopin and any sleeping pills are bad for sleep apnea- I've even heard people say you could die from it. But I've experienced much better clarity and energy on klonopin even when I wake up with the mask off.
also I've been able to sleep on restoril, temazapem without a machine with normal O2 levels during a sleep study. I don't feel 100% normal or rested on klonopin but much much better than on asv alone

has anyone had similar experiences?

Overall sleep aids are contraindicated for OSA sufferers, the additional relaxation could make the OSA worse. That doesnt always stop them from being prescribed. Any concerns that you have should be discussed with the pharmacist or your doctor.

I assume you are aware of the recorded side effects of Klonopin.
If the side effects have a significant negative effect,
you might check with your doctor if another drug might be more appropriate.
From reading older posts of yours, I can see you have been struggling quite a while.
Your courage in the face of all your difficulties is an inspiration.

Great post Chunky Frog. If there was a post rating system, I would give it the highest number.

The worst of which ("IMHO") is the Rebound Insomnia that occurs when you stop taking it.

I don't even think that one was mentioned on Drugs.com. (probably because they list the side effects while taking the drug)
I wonder if any Rx sleep meds are NOT habituating--in one way or another.

How many times is he/she going to post asking that very same question??? Lots of answers and discussion have been given by members but it doesn't seem to sink in.

Lets see how long before my post will stay up, as he/she tends to delete posts that he/she doesn't like
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
