More fun with my DME

Post by melindy » Wed Mar 27, 2013 2:38 pm

I got the Mirage FX for her mask in the standard size- the DME didn't know it came in two sizes. I tried it the first 2 nights and it is definitely too big and in the corners it goes towards my eyes too much and hangs over my lips.

I called and talked to the DME and they agreed to send the smaller size- although at first they were confused and disagreed there was a smaller size. I read the Mirage page to them and they said they'd see what they could do.

The next day I got a package from them- yay my mask! Nope- they sent me the Swift nasal pillows.

I called today and spoke to them for a good 45 minutes. They absolutely refused to believe there were 2 sizes for the Mirage. I googled and in 2 seconds was on ResMed's website and found the product number FOR them. Finally they said they could special order it for me and it will take a few weeks to get in since it's not in their warehouse. Nice of them to have zero idea what they are talking about.

And they will probably WAIT several weeks to even order it!
You can get one from cpap.com within a few short days, or try another DME in network.
What jerks!

My DME doesn't stock my mask, but when I call to order one, it only takes 3 or 4 days and it's on my porch...

I don't want to do that since I'm in the middle of this right now. But geez, isn't this their job?

Sometimes you want to congratulate them for hiring the mentally challenged!

I say write a brief, polite letter to the manager letting him or her know what is going on (Black Spinner's suggestion to congratulate them for hiring the mentally challenged is fun but probably not diplomatic--I'd sure be tempted though ) and CC IT TO YOUR DOCTOR.

The DME doesn't give a hoot about you, but they do care about what your doctor (referral source) thinks, so if you embarrass them, it might get their attention so they stop jerking you around.

My guess is when they see that cc to your doctor they'll start falling all over themselves to get the right sized mask to you--or maybe not, but you'll never know until you try.

I'd like to say that this is an isolated incident but rather large number of people here will tell you otherwise.

You are better off doing what you did. Look up the part numbers and tell the DME to order it by part number. My DME informed me that PR had discontinued the white performance hose and the grey generic hose was all that that they could order.

I went to the PR site and copied down all the part number for my supplies, masks, and APAP machine. Now I order by part number instead.

Keep fighting them until you get what you want.
