Results from quitting smoking

Post by Dan6 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 9:34 am

Looking for people who have stopped smoking after starting CPAP. How has it changed your apnea?

Bump. Interesting topic! I quit smoking before my sleep apnea was diagnosed. The effects of quitting are probably quite variable. I had been a long time smoker and my lung capacity was about normal, Others are not so fortunate! I'm glad I finally quit and wish it had been decades sooner...

I quit smoking 7 years ago, fractured my skull 3 years ago and lost my smell and taste so no temptation anymore on smelling cigarette smoke, I wouldn't even be able to taste them. No desire there anyhow. Started my CPAP a month ago and honestly, I do not see how someone could be a smoker and be on CPAP, maybe its just me. Doesn't smoking put you at a higher risk for Apnea ?

I am just now 27 days into quitting smoking, will let you know more later but as of yet I can see no difference in the apnea, lots of senses are getting better though.

I've never smoked; but hubby quit on Good Friday 1972.
His 3 years younger brother has continued to smoke,
and has been mistaken several times for his older brother's FATHER.
I'm sure that with both apnea and smoking I would have been a widow years ago.

I quit in October 2012. I have COPD. Since quitting my breathing is way better. I never use my inhaler anymore and ER visits have stopped. Apnea diagnosis in Feb and CPAP started 3/1. Can't imagine still smoking right now. Quitting and treating OSAs is the best thing I've done for myself in a long time..quality of life upgrade for sure

Quitting smoking is hard. I used an ecigarette. I wish you the best.

I stopped in October of 1999. Traded in my 2 pack a day habit for a 2 tin a day Altoid habit for a while. Took about 6 months to break that habit! This was all before CPAP. Triadz and Dan6 you will get through it. It is hard, but you can get there. Do it one day at a time. Hell I still do it one day at a time!
Congrats,
-tino
