I've only been using cpap since November. Any difference in winter vs summer?

Not for me except I like the air coming from the machine a little cooler in summer.
I don't sleep well when too warm.

I've been to Missouri a few times during the summer. Not very pleasant. Once during the end of Aug. They canceled schools in the area due to heat Never seen that before.

Should I expect to run the AC during the sleep time? Even during heat waves, I can usually tolerate no AC when I sleep.

Things change COMPLETELY for me, but my living conditions are totally different from yours, I bet. If you have a very humid summer, you will want to make sure your humidifier is dried out after each use so that mold doesn't grow in it. If your bedroom is warm, you may need to keep some Kleenex by the bed so that you can wipe perspiration out from under your mask to keep it comfortable and keep it from chafing.

Other that that, you have a heated hose, you may want to change it over to the unheated if you don't have a cold air conditioned bedroom. If you do, then just keep it there - it will help the same way it does in the winter.

I think some here don't use the humidifier or the just do passover during the summer - that might be something you might want to try if the humidity in your house is high.

i keep an eye on the filters during pollen season. they seem to get dirty quicker as windows and doors are open more often.

You've got a great machine which will deal with the temps getting warmer in summer, just put a regular unheated hose on unless if you decide to go to heavy A/C (the drought and heat may change your mind ). BTW, For the winter months, while using my nasal pillows (not unlike yours) and the skinny hose, I needed to jury-rig a fleece 15mm hose cosy. That's coming off now because it's the end of March and warm enough. Also, somebody mentioned changing the paper filter more often... probably a good idea.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I do have a 10,000 BTU portable room unit I bought last year at costco for about $350. No central AC unfortunately. Way overkill for the space so I should be all prepared

Oversized AC units are usually not a good thing.

They can cool the space too quickly, and thus not run long enough to sufficiently reduce the humidity.
The result is a cool but clammy space.

This is really bizarre but I was just thinking of one of those last night. I really don't want to go central due to the cost but I definitely would like to be cooler in the summer... plus the price is right.

Cosmo: How noisy is it? What about clammy air? Did you install it yourself?

The noise is not bad at all. I paid $339 actually. All you need to do is route the exhaust port out a window and they give you a little panel to secure it. Best thing would be to drill a hole through your wall and port the hose out but the panel works. They are sort of on the big and heavy side so you need a hatch back or bigger car.

I have it like this.

Thats the one I bought.

Home Depot and Lowes do have cheaper ones.

The nights are shorter in the summer.

As a long-time resident of the South or Southwest, I can't imagine sleeping without A/C! I guess I will reduce the heat/humidity setting as summer settles in good (here in a couple of weeks).

Cosmo, I see you're in Northern California. The whole west coast is dry, dry, dry during the summer. The humidity dropped as low as 15% last summer on the hottest days here in Eugene, despite the area's reputation for being cold and damp. To get hot weather here, the wind has to blow from the desert. They call that a Santa Ana wind down in SoCal, but it's the same here.

I started on CPAP last April without a humidifier. That worked well until late June when the weather changed. Then I got hit with three weeks of nonstop sinus problems, like a really bad cold that wouldn't go away. It took me that long to figure out that I needed to order a humidifier.

I used a heated hose from October until about two weeks ago. I switched to a standard hose with a cover when it warmed up, and I'll probably take the cover off during the summer.

If you are comfortable with refurbished units, I noticed woot.com has a similar item as their sale item today:

Hi cosmo!

This reminded me of a slide during a Dr. Park interview on CPAP use. It showed one user whose use of CPAP slowly increased over a year. The other guy quite clearly changed with the seasons ( 2 cycles if memory serves).

I think I am like the second guy. Minimum pressure need is fall just after the very hot of the summer. Then winter drags me down. Spring such as now I get better and better but some time in July the hot, hot seems to upset me.

If memory serves very hot weather is known to make apnea worse.

I am one who needs to keep an eye on data. I do not think I am alone!

Have a great spring!!
