Ceiling Fan Chain Swinging - Earthquake?

Post by Sheffey » Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:16 am

Having had a good night's sleep, I awoke late this morning and the sun had already made everything visible in the bedroom. I lay there for a few minutes stretching gently. The ornate ceiling fan was visible; not running because the nights are still cold.

Surprisingly I noticed the chain of the ceiling fan swinging in a small circle. Having experienced one before, my first thought was "Earthquake", so I lay very quiet and watched and listened. The chain continued to swing.

After a moment I realized the exhaust from my mask was aimed directly at the chain and was causing the swinging.

I turned off the machine and got up and began to dress. I noticed the swinging had stopped.

I had a similar experience today! LOL

My ceiling fan stopped working some time ago, and this weekend I took it down to see if I could address the problem (alas, the problem is with the remote receiver, which this fan is designed and shipped with so I can't just replace it, but that's a different story). So right now there's just a mounting plate on the ceiling, and it has a bit of dust on it. When I woke up today I noticed the dust was fluttering. I thought there must be a HUGE amount of air coming in through the tiny hole in the ceiling where the wires are to get it moving that much, and then, like you, I realized it was my exhaust. Turn a bit and fluttering stops.

Oh, the things CPAP can do...
