OT: Software for video rework

Post by rosacer » Fri Mar 22, 2013 11:35 am

This is a question for the technical inclined members .

I have downloaded a couple of small videos (3, 6, 7 minutes) for exercise or aerobics from Youtube.

I want to take those videos (.mp4, .flv, etc) to cut what I don't need (useless explanations, etc) and make one longer enough from it to do exercise.

Do you know a shareware, free from spyware and other crap inside? Or an affordable software to do that ?

Thanks

Rosie

FYI: I use Xilisoft to download the videos from Youtube.

If you're using Windows you could try http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... et-started. It's very basic, but your needs are also basic, so it might be perfect.

If you use a recent Windows and have installed the Microsoft Live suite (free download), you already have one on your computer - Movie Maker. The 2012 version supports all sorts of formats, including the ones you listed and has much more abilities to produce a new clip than simply cut and append. If you have another OS (or older Windows), you might have to look for something else but you'll need to tell us which OS you have.

Rosacer,
I haven't a favorite, but suggest you look at: //http:www.majorgeeks.com/downloads32.html It's my favorite source for freeware, etc. You could also search their forum for threads on multimedia editing software. earl

If you've tried the Movie Maker that came with Windows XP, you'll find MM 2012 very different - it's a lot better. I suggest you give it a chance.

@ Sleepy

The only MM I tried is the Windows 7, I hated it I toke a lot of time trying to find what I wanted to cut and the guest what ? it didn't save If I can use another thing that will make my day, Windows is not my cup of tea. I don't have another computer than a Windows slave

@ Chunky

Could you please ask your son ? Nothing else could be worst that MM. M is the first letter of the word shit in French and in Spanish, is it a coincidence

I forgot to tell the top M is Windows Media Player for Win 7 That one gave me a deep and strong destruction desire No need to say that WMP7 doesn't exist for me even if it is in my computer, what a shame to. WMP for XP was good

Comming to my request, could some charitable soul here tell me which software can I use to cut and paste videos downloaded from Youtube ? I want to trim a couple of short exercise videos to make one bigger 30 minutes or so to really be able to have a good workout time.

Or you can suggest to me what to seek for, I have no idea of what to put on google for the research.

Thanks

Rosie

Try this one, Avidemux. It may not be as easy and simple to use as you may want, but from what I have seen of video editors none of them are. I just ran this and it looks like it is a pretty decent program. Best of all, it's free!

For Windows XP and later. 64 bit version http://sourceforge.net/projects/avidemu ... _win64.exe

32 bit version http://sourceforge.net/projects/avidemu ... _win32.exe

You will need to edit each individual video to remove the unwanted parts, and make sure they are the same resolution and file type. Then you can append them together into one longer video. Don't let yourself get frustrated by the process, because it will be easy to do so. There are dozens of video formats out there. I don't think the ones you download from YouTube are all the same.

Here's the home page for Avidemux, http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/.

@ idamtnboy

At CNET the reviews says avidemux is not good , it has 2 1/1 stars only. All kind of complaints

Have you tried it ?

Goldwave, Inc. makes a couple products that I have used since the 90s, Goldwave (the best audio editing software I ever found) and Multiquence (a multimedia sequencing program). Multiquence is being upgraded to "VideoMeld." I haven't tried VideoMeld yet, but Goldwave & Multiquence got me through quite a few projects over the years. Chris knows his A/V stuff, and he's a good code-monkey, too.

Meanwhile, it looks like VideoMeld is free right now, while in a near-final beta state.
