It feels like I need to try something to "slow my body down" at nights. I don't have RLS but there is something going on in the entire body that makes sleep difficult some nights.
Can you recommend a good formula that is sold in one of the major drugstore chains?
This probably won't work for me, but I thought it won't hurt to try.

A glass of warm milk, if you like that, is the traditional thing.WarmBodies wrote:It feels like I need to try something to "slow my body down" at nights. I don't have RLS but there is something going on in the entire body that makes sleep difficult some nights.

My husband, a restless PAP sleeper, thinks that starting magnesium 400mg in the early evening has benefited his sleep. I was skeptical, but since he takes a diuretic for hypertension, magnesium loss out of urine, similar to potassium, can occur. He has been on magnesium for over a year, now with a very low AHI, off all other sleeping meds.

Sometimes I just feel like my whole body needs to squirm in bed and this makes it impossible to sleep. It feels like I need to try something to "slow my body down" at nights. I don't have RLS but there is something going on in the entire body that makes sleep difficult some nights.
I need to try taking something. About milk, I don't know. It only happens a few nights a week and I would not want to drink a glass of milk every night to cover a few nights.
Maybe the drugstore has a combination calcium/magnesium pill?

I used to have problems getting to sleep too but for me, I'm pretty sure my problems were related to pre-menopause. I would usually have one or two nights where I just couldn't get to sleep. I would lie there, tossing and turning until around 4 am, I would finally sleep - then wake up 4 hours later and get up. Or some nights, I felt like I couldn't stop moving. I tried warm milk but didn't like it. A friend of mine suggested trying soy milk and it did seem to help. I have a glass of soy milk before bed and I sleep much better.
Now my problem is I'm getting mask leaks that wake me up! Ah, the woes of having sleep apnea!

In researching my sleep issues, I found that estrogen has a LOT to do with sleep - and the lack of it causes insomnia, so it would make a lot of sense that soy milk would be helpful for women with reduced estrogen production.m1k2s3 wrote:I used to have problems getting to sleep too but for me, I'm pretty sure my problems were related to pre-menopause. Re: Taking calcium and magnesium?
Oh, yes, I'm the soy drinker of the PAP couple, so perhaps, that's why I sleep so soundly compared to my husband. As a soy drinker for decades, I never suspected that I had any sleeping problems and was upset that they woke me up during my sleep study to start therapy. Only my restless husband insisted on the study. Makes me wonder how many blithely endure severe OSA until they stroke, palpitate or die.

Dr. Oz talked about tart cherry juice on his show. This seems to have sort of the same effects as melatonin, but much better. I have a coworker who swears by it. I did try it one night and I did sleep sounder than usual.
