RemZzzs liners - Medicare reconsidering billing codes

Post by angcor580 » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:32 pm

I got this email today about Medicare may not cover RemZzzs liners. Not sure if anyone know about this but thought I would share.

RemZzzs CPAP Mask Liners
Urgent!! We need your testimonials for continued Medicare / Private Insurance coverage.

Thank you for being a loyal supporter of RemZzzs CPAP mask liners. Your ongoing support has helped us continue our mission of helping CPAP users like yourself achieve successful therapy worldwide over the last four years.

We are contacting you today with an urgent request. Rather abruptly, we have received communications from Medicare indicating a reconsideration of our Medicare billing codes to a non-covered item. We are frankly quite puzzled as to the nature of this decision.
Here is an excerpt from a Medicare letter we received on 3/7/13:

“CPAP masks are equipped with an interface material to make the seal around the area of the face, in order for the mask to function properly. Additional CPAP mask liners are considered duplicative of what is already provided on the mask. Therefore, this is assigned coded A9270.”

The "A9270" code refers to a non-covered item. This is a decision that has the potential to negatively affect thousands of CPAP users worldwide who have achieved successful therapy using RemZzzs CPAP mask liners. The loss of Medicare codes could have a major impact in coverage for those using Private Insurance as well.

We are submitting paperwork detailing our overwhelming success over the past four years helping CPAP users continue therapy, and we are in need of your support. Part of the Government's mission is listening to the voice of the people, and we want to make our collective voices heard. Will you join us in pushing back by submitting a testimonial of how RemZzzs has helped you achieve successful CPAP therapy? We also want to hear from you how continued Medicare / Private Insurance coverage will allow you to personally continue successful therapy.

Let's raise our voices together. Thank you for joining in our mission to help CPAP users worldwide achieve successful therapy!

True. I don't use them; I prefer Pad a Cheek since I can wash them and reuse.

Unless they can justify the high cost of these liners.....Probably have a low wage person die cutting a few dollars worth of fabric in each package.

Stuff like that irks me. $16.95 for this little piece of plastic...So long as it is for medical use, the sky is the limit...

That is old school stuff cosmo. Fabric cutters were a skilled, well paid job. It is all done by lasers and computers these days.

remzzz's are probably a wonderful product... but the bottom line for me is cost..

6 months ago, I paid $36 for 2 pad-a-cheek liners and they are still in use today with no sign of needing replacement.

Remzz's are not re-usable & the last time I checked, a 30 day supply of remzz's for my FFM is $29.95.

if I used remzzz's over the past 6 months, I would have spent $180.

it's a no-brainer for me...

Dave

Maybe that's why my second order of small cushions for my elan were also coded A7024 (the mask code)
There seems to be a pattern of "up-coding".
I previously contacted cpap.com about the code, and they assured me the cushions are always A7032.
Yet my invoice reflects the mask number. Twice, now.
My suspicion is that cpap.com is following the lead of Medicare, who is classifying the cushions wrong
because they have them confused with the Advance, where there is no replacement cushion.
If this is not corrected before I retire, I am totally out of pocket for at least 12 cushions a year.
(can't get them with the whole mask.) The frog is grumpy.
