Still feeling tired
Still feeling tired
I know my doctors said it could take a few weeks before I feel any real changes, but here's a few things I've noticed. When I wake up in the morning, my body feels more rested. My wife states that I barely move at night and that I really don't hear anything. The thing I'm not sure about is, these past few days I'm finding myself feeling really tired at different times during the day. I felt that way before, but it's come back. Anyone have any ideas as to why this may be? I just start using my CPAP machine last Friday.

Let me start with the obvious "every body is different"... but, I noticed that too - I've been on APAP since December, and there are still times on days when I hit what I've been calling a "wall" and the old familiar tiredness hits me. It was more frequent when I first started, and it just seemed like, for whatever reason, my energy ran out and I was back to tired. For me, the frequency and duration of the tired periods have decreased over time (with treatment on APAP). I always took it as a reminder of how I used to feel all the time, and it helped to see the progress I was making.
Congrats on starting treatment and seeing some results!
Take care,
Tash

You're right, everyone is different. It's not that my body is feeling tired or I'm running out of energy, it's just that I fall asleep. I don't like it because it's happening to me at work or when I'm at home after working feeding my 2 month old his bottle. I guess I'll just have to be a little more patient. Maybe I need to adjust my Nose Pillow more or possibly even try some other sort of mask. Thanks for responding.

My dr also continues to stress that it takes time to realize real improvements with my CPAP therapy. Maybe I too am over anxious, but I certainly am not experiencing the great CPAP miracle that was touted. Still hopeful... I am sleeping some better but more nights than not, I still "struggle". I have been on CPAP since March 9. For the most part drs and DME seem flippant with their "just do it" attitudes. I am frustrated, can you tell?
Yeah, that's what everyone tells me too. But that's hard to hear when I'm such an impatient person to begin with. I can tell you're frustrated. Just hang in there and hopefully we'll start to notice some differences soon.

Feeling tired stiil
I can understand what you all are saying. What seemed to help me was a post someone put up on the changes that happened at the thousand hours of use mark. I am only at around two hundred so far. I figure it will take me around six months to hit a 1000.
I can tell from prior experience that you will feel different/better. 12 years ago I did that surgery and felt renewed after it. Of course it came back after tens years, so now I am on the CPAP. I decided that if the surgery would have to be done (for me anyway) on a periodic basis again and again it was not worth it. So, I decided to get a CPAP. I have been fortunate to get a machine that had 90% of the features I wanted and I was able to use the mask each night without too many problems.
Keep asking questions and hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people see immediate and startling results... I'm envious. I started out feeling only mildly better, if that much. Then I went though a time where I thought CPAP pushed my brains out of my ears... I couldn't pay attention or stay focused on anything. Then I started noticing little changes like: I didn't fall asleep during the evening news, without thinking about it I drank less caffeine during the day, I was able to participate in intense conversations. The rest, for what is worth, has come somewhat slowly. I feel much, much, much better but I don't believe I'm 100% yet . (I have been on CPAP since early-January and been nearly completely compliant - even when it wasn't working quite right).
There are lots of potential stumbling blocks, leaks, sore nares, pressure adjustments... basically all the stuff you read about here and on other sites. Some problems you may encounter, many you will not. I just hope if I'm patient enough, stay compliant, and work to get the equipment that works best for me, I'll get the rest of the way.
Good luck

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. It's not so much that I'm discouraged but more impatient. Also, it's good to hear everyone's experiences as I don't know really what to expect because the way I felt before CPAP, was the way I felt all of my life, or as long as I can remember. Hearing all of these positives that come from CPAP treatment is really exciting. I'm really looking forward to "starting a new life."
Re: Still feeling tired
I have been on Bipap since Feb 26 and I can tell you that only in the last 2-3 days that I can feel improvement. Its a more rested, easier deep breathing feeling. I know I have a ways to go but I do believe I am on my way. Maybe I'll get my flowers out in time. I am completely compliant and am strict on sticking to a set bedtime. Lets give it all we got. The degree of our apnea may be a good indicator as the length of time it takes to recover. Mine is severe.

I can only speak for myself. When I noticed this very same thing, a therapist asked me a few questions. Did I feel some of the old symptoms had returned that were present prior to CPAP therapy? I said YES. They suggested there was a good liklihood I had gotten "used" to the pressure setting I was at, and it was no longer sufficient to meet my needs. I had it bumped up from 9 to 10 and voila!!! Now I'm sleeping like a ROCK! Takes me no more than 15 minutes to drop off into sleep and the next thing I know it's 6:30am (about 7.5 hours after heading to bed). I also changed to a full face mask (FP FlexFit 431) and this alone has made improvements as I'm no longer messing with it for minutes at a time. (and no darned chin strap needed).
