Sometimes you are better off NOT getting a diagnosis:

well the diagnosis reads hypersomnia with sleep apnea without cataplexy, so i do not fall asleep at the drop of a pin but i do get sleepy, or well i did, pre-cpap, ever since i started treatment i have not had any episodes of sleepiness while driving, a couple of bored yawns but other than that not much.

On the other hand, apnea treatment sometimes cures or at least alleviates hypersomnia. the idea is that you sleep a long time because you don't get much, if any, quality sleep. i don't sleep as much now that i've become cpap-compliant, and i used to need/want an embarrassing amount of sleep. if the apnea is at least partially a cause of the hypersomnia, cpap compliance can reduce both your sleep need and increase your daytime alertness.
