This type of ignorance is very scary. Another proof that common sense isn't so common after all.
Conrad,
Have you worked in education?
I feel your response is totally out of line.

As a matter of fact, I work in higher education and have done so for nearly 30 years now. Are you telling me that you do not think that the comment by ems is ignorant and is totaly lacking in common sense?
Well, I should have known better than to ask that question. But I still stand by what I said.
At the special ed school I worked at, allowing teachers and staff members to carry guns would have been deadly.
And actually, there are reports of kids bringing guns to school since Newtown. So EMS is definitely on target with what she says.

EMS stated that 'next they will allow children to carry guns...'. That is pure ignorance at best. No one is EVER going to allow children to carry guns to school, or anywhere else for that matter.
You said that there have been reports of kids bringing guns to school since Newtown, hell, that's been going on since WAY before Newtown. Where do you think that these kids are getting these guns, for the most part? From their stupid parents who do not secure their guns as they should with kids in the house.
No one is going to allow teachers to carry guns in school without TRAINING, along with personality assessments and background checks. The process for acquiring a concealed carry permit is very rigorous, they don't just give those permits to anyone.

not z'actly. in alabama my wife and i got concealed permits by going to the sheriif's office, showing our drivers license, answering a few questions and paying $20. they run a criminal background check and we have our permit. the whole thing takes 10 minutes. not z'actly rigorous. i know some states make you jump thru hoops and pay alot.
19 states have reciprocal agreements to accept our permits, meaning their requirements are generally the same or lower.
1. Alaska
2. Georgia
3. Kentucky
4. New Hampshire
5. Oklahoma
6. Wyoming
7. Colorado
8. Idaho
9. Michigan

I stand by what I said. That your eyes are closed to what could potentially happen is beyond me. More guns and more people carrying guns is NOT the answer. Neighbor A pulls her gun out and kills neighbor B because a tulip fell over on her side of the yard. Then neighbor A gives her child a gun in case neighbor B's child decides to get back at her child. Far fetched. I don't think so. It amazes me that some of you people are so clueless and blind. Oh, by the way, President Obama won the election!
PS I'm done with this thread. It's same ole, same ole crap!!

Neighbor A wouldn't pull her gun out to shoot neighbor B because neighbor B also has a gun and is faster on the draw and is a better shot than neighbor A.

Exactly stupid! Why don't we all carry guns? That's the answer... isn't it??

Have you ever lived through a lockdown because of a shooter in your school? I have.
While I was waiting for the all clear in my locked office, do you know what I wished for the most? Other than the shooter to be killed, I wished that I had my gun in my hand.

Wow! How do you feel about it being so easy to get that permit? Do you carry a gun now?

i like it because it's cheap and easy for me. when someone applies and fails the background check, a uniformed deputy comes in and escorts them to another area of the sheriff's office. been there, seen it. don't confuse easy with lack of rules. not everybody can have one. 99% of the time my pistols stay at home. there are times when it goes with.
this gun thing is a double edged sword for sure. my step-daughter by a previous marraige is doing double life without parole in another state for a workplace shooting. she was the most unviolent person in the world, but got pushed too far and snapped. i don't really want to say much more about it. just saying i am as aware as anyone about the consequences of owning a gun.

ems asks is it next. You say it is now. And that is with very strict laws against children carrying guns and with gun-free zones for schools.
So we already have the laws but we are getting kids carrying guns to school anyway. What are your proposing next?

You forgot to mention that kids have been bringing guns to school years before Columbine too. Google
Brenda Ann Spencer some time.
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

I'm not a US citizen and so I won't offer an opinion as it does not really matter.
However I'm curious with a comment From Slatrybartfast that the right to carry does not apply in Federal buildings. What is the justification for that?

concealed weapon permits are issued by state governments. they are not valid on federal property. it's not justr federal buildings. it also pertains to military bases, us post offices, etc.
