Took My Own Advise.... sort of...

Post by Sheriff Buford » Sun Jan 27, 2013 8:34 am

I have often recogmended folks who are regularly on auto pap to switch to cpap mode (and vise versa) about one or twice a year to see how they feel. I have been stuck on straight cpap mode for several years and could not find any change to the better by switching to autopap mode. Well.... last Sunday I switched to autopap mode. I read a thread here (can't remember which one... for all you youngsters... your memory is the first to go... or maybe second... ) that inspired me. Anyway, I felt great!! My pressure range is 11 - 18. My cpap pressure was 14, so the 11 was a little low, and I did feel a little uncomfortable, but I left it there and have gotten used to it. My AHI is normal and has not changed, and my 95 percentile is in the 12.2 range. Anyway, I noticed I felt much better during the day!! I guess I will have to take my own advise and stick to autopap. Us "hard-heads" need to be knocked down a few notches some times and eat a plate of humble!

One thing I have noticed, is that the machine seems a bit noisier on straight cpap mode. The inhale EPR has an adjustment for medium or high and when I inhale, it makes that sawing logs noise. I didn't realise that you cannot turn this off. I had the EPR in the off mode, but the inhale is set for medium or high and you cannot adjust it in the clinical mode. Wonder why? Food for thought.

Just sharing...

Isn't EPR exhale pressure relief? Can't imagine it would affect your inhale.

I had to reboot my computer and all my documents were erased. I'll have to wait to look at the clinical menu at work. Sheriff

Excellent Sheriff! It is a good reminder to us all to occasionally re-evaluate. Sometimes we need to step back and look at how things are going for us in our PAP therapy and even our daily life. I personally feel that those who lives and/or jobs are always focussed on helping, serving, and protecting others are indeed some of the most wonderful people I know, but also unfortunately some of the people most in need of taking time to do things for themselves as well. My Mother was one of these people who always gave first and selflessly and we had to almost pull a pistol on her to get her to think about herself .

May your new adjustment provide even better therapy for you and health!

Now, go have a twinkie or other treat in celebration, you have earned it .

John

Sheriff: I agree with John that you've made a good point about occasional experimentation. I recently upped my Pmin by one whole cmH2O and it made a big improvement in my sleep quality. I was doing okay before the change, however a little experimentation (small steps) can make a significant improvement in one's therapy.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The EPR Inhale setting (medium or fast) is only available in CPAP mode on the S9 Autoset.

If you're in auto mode, it automatically locks into "medium" and doesn't even show you the option, but you can still set EPR level (1, 2, 3, or Off).

That's what I thought. I just recently notice the noise the machine was making when I inhaled. I started snooping around and thats what I came up with. I was thinking I didn't need it and wondered if Resmed could turn it off and just blow a straight-set of air....

As far as I know, when you set EPR to 'Off', the EPR Inhale setting (only available in straight CPAP mode) is completely ignored and you would be getting a constant single pressure for both inhale & exhale.
