Which hybrid mask?

Post by Mirrasi » Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:52 pm

I want to get one of the hybrid masks but can't figure out which one to go for. Any recommendations?

I'd go with the Innomed Hybrid... get the full kit as it will give you lots of options of pillows and cushions. The Resmed makes you pick between large and small cushions at time of purchase.

Yes the innomed hybrid is better and gives more options in sizing. The resmed one is a cheaper ripoff.

Ditto that.....you get all the sizes at once. The headgear is very comfy too.

Interesting. The resmed is pricier! Thanks!

And when you get it use the thread "the great pillow exchange" to trade the ones that don't fit for ones that do.

Interesting thread, and I"m interested in this mask.
However, my service provider recommended against it.

I'm a sometime mouth breather. Normally I use a cpap-cap to hold my jaw in place, and a nasal mask. I tried a couple of full face masks and had no luck with them (with a previous provider, who it turned out had done me no favours.)

I find the idea of a hybrid mask interesting. However, might have trouble gettng past my DME supplier.

This statement makes no sense. You are the customer....you make the decisions. Who cares what your DME says. You use any mask that you want. If your DME gives you ANY static...you walk out. There are lots of CPAP suppliers.

Why should they do that, it is a good mask for mouth breathers because it encourages you to keep your mouth shut, the chin flap works better for me then any chin strap. Besides you could order one from Cpap.com our host, even with shipping it isn't that expensive. I just ordered an innomed hybrid for a total of $133 US including shipping.

I'm stumped as to why the DME would recommend against the Innomed Hybrid. I often breathe through my mouth but could not tolerate the leaks close to my eyes from a full-face mask. The Innomed Hybrid has been a wonderful mask for me--and my only mask--for five years. (I tried the other one made like this, the Liberty, and it didn't work for me at all.) Plus with the Hybrid you get all sizes of oral cushion and all sizes of nasal pillows to mix and match for the right fit. Then as someone else mentioned, just exchange the sizes you don't need for ones you do. I've done that many, many times...saves a ton of money.

The price of the ResMed Lberty ( $207.00) close to double the price of the InnoMed Hybrid.( $116.95) The InnoMed includes 3 sizes of cushions and nazzle pillows and a very nice carrying case. This price is at Cpap.com.

Well I am really glad I asked then. I was afraid to get the cheaper one thinking it would be the wrong one. So glad! I'm off to order it now. Cross fingers that it works!

UGH, well I guess I won't be getting it. I emailed several companies someone PM'd me and none of them will sell a mask without a prescription. I guess something must have changed. And of course my primary doesn't want to deal with it. Now I'm stuck waiting until I get insurance and get a new doctor. It's so frustrating! I just want these headaches to stop.

Different market here in Canada. I have been searching for a new DME for years.
And I need a different sleep doc--he's really the source of the problem.

I've been compliant for 15+ yrs. Same sleep doc for 10. I just got critical, and may be out the door anyway. I finally got a subscription for a mask, and cpap after 15 years when I asked him what would happen if I lost my machine (burn out? theft?) and didn't like his response...so I asked for a prescription. Unfortunately it is written for cpap not bipap or auto pap as I would have preferred.

Anyway, be happy with the care you get. I don't get health care; I get health management. It's all about controlling costs. Ontario Canada.
