Mask issue in early morning

Post by pgjackson » Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:26 am

So far the CPAP has been a life-changer. Took about a month to get used to it, but now I sleep through the whole night without having to go pee, the snoring has stopped completely and I wake up feeling great insted of feeling like someone beat me up during the night. My only problem is that after about 6-7 hours wearing the mask, it starts to lose it's grip on my face and I get lots of noisy air leaks. It's very frustrating when at 5am I get a blast of air into my eye or a loud hissing sound. I wash my face and mask every night before bed, but by early morning it's kind of oily and slippery.

Thoughts?

Maybe try nasal pillows.

Which kind of mask do you use?
Some people use mask liners that help with that issue.

I use a full face mask (covers my nose and mouth). What is a mask liner?

Google Pad-a-Cheek - Karen, a member here, designed her 'liners' to go with our masks - they are thin coverings that fit between the mask and yourself and are very helpful.

I've got a similar issue, but fortunately I get out of bed at 4:30AM for work on weekdays.

on weekends, I tend to press my face into the edge of pillow to stop them or I just pull the lower straps a little tighter to get a few more hours of sleep.

Mask liners really helped me! They are worth the cost.

When I wore silicone, I kept unscented baby wipes handy.
If I woke with a slippery mask, I'd wipe it down, and my face, too.
Oil removed, the mask stuck to my face again.

This happens to me too, except I usually can't make it all night without a bathroom trip anyway (though I am down to one instead of 2-4). So, I go to the bathroom, come back, check my mask for any drool, sweat, etc, wipe it down if needed, and then go back to bed.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
