I've been on CPAP 12 years. I have an old Sullivan V Elite that still works great with a giant "Passover humidifier" that goes underneath it. I use it to dry my mask and hoses.

Naked J, seventeen years! Impressive.
Also, that Respironics in your image looks like a suitcase. (That must have been interesting when you traveled.)
BTW, only 7 years to report, here (not one missing day, however). I'm the fewest years responding so far.

14 Years at the end of December 2012
Started out with the plain Sullivan V (not the Elite) with the same huge passover humidifier that fit under the machine. Actually, it was just a water tank since no heat was available.

Re: Who's the longest using patient here?
Nakedjaxx, looks like that machine should be where my first computer ended up - in a museum! It was one of the "luggable" Compaq "portable" computers that had a 5.25" floppy disk drive and a small (I think it was a little smaller than the floppy drive). The screen was monochrome (green), and if I recall correctly it had a 40 MB hard drive. Of course, that was about the time that Bill Gates said that 640K of RAM should be more than enough for everyone!
BTW, to answer your question, I have only been on CPAP for just over 3 years. Probably should have been on it at least 20 years. However, difficult to tell exactly because I had at least some symptoms of sleep apnea when I was a youngster. Try 50 years?!!! Who knows what would have happened had I had effective treatment all those years ago?

I can think of one or two posters here who appear to be users.Who's the longest using patient here?
But then maybe I misunderstood the question.

Re: Who's the longest using patient here?
December of 1998 for me. Like the others I started out with a Sullivan V machine but didn't have a humidifier. Didn't use one for the first 7 or 8 years of treatment. Those old Sullivan's were tough as a boot. I gave mine away with about 35,000 hours on it and it was still running strong.

Re: Who's the longest using patient here?
I began my CPAP journey is January 2000, (12 years ago!) below is my first machine:

It had no data and the humidifier was an ad-on that had a tray for the machine to kind of sit on. My very first humidifier was a passover that they had me sit on a heating pad, but within a few months I qualified for a humidifier. Looking back I can't believe I had to 'qualify' to get a humidifier!
Although, last month my hubby got his machine from a DME that actually tried to sell us the unit WITHOUT a humidifier, saying he 'probably' wouldn't need it. I could not believe in this day & age anyone would even think a humidifier is optional.

Re: Who's the longest using patient here?
I started on cpap in September of 2002. I don't believe I have missed a night since starting. I was fortunate to get adjusted with little or no problem. It is doubtful that I could sleep with the machine and mask now. I won't be trying unless I have too.

Going on aprox 17 years for me, like most of you used a Sullivan machine for a number of years, no humidifier, at a pressure of 18! Those were the dark ages compared to today!

Sorry, don't believe that for one moment. There are kids who would be shorter than you!!!! I'd send you hugs, but I don't "like" frogs!chunkyfrog wrote:At 4'11", I may be among the shortest.
