I had a nurse type kitty who did this too. At first I was annoyed but then I realized I wasn't having so many choking fits. He died a year and a half ago and my choking fits increased. I didn't know they were related to sleep Abe's until my diagnosis last April. My two remaining cats aren't as smart. They probably think I purr loud.JO'M wrote:Well in my case, my cat "diagnosed' the apnea long before I or my dr had a clue that something was going on.
At my yearly physical, I told my dr that I wasn't sleeping well because my cat kept waking me up at night. She would nuzzle/head butt my nose/face several time throughout the night. Every night without fail she would head butt me awake between 2-2:30. She didn't want food or attention. My dr (who also has a cat) sent me for sleep study and well here I am.
Interestingly, the sleep study and subsequent data showed the the most/worst events happened between 2-2:30. And now she sniffs the mask when I put it on/start it up, but doesn't wake me up anymore.

LOL, too funny!!! I love the kitty in your avatar, looks like he/she has big puffy chest full of white fur! Also looks like you can't stare this kitty or it'll give you the squinty stare!zoocrewphoto wrote:My two remaining cats aren't as smart. They probably think I purr loud.

We have 2 cats. One does a lot of "binge/purge" and the other snores and drools and purrs. Neither is too fond of my CPAP

LOL! Our kitty snores too! I tell her if she doesn't stop snoring she's gonna have to wear a cpap mask too... She just looks at me like cats do when they're deciding should just ignore him or should I really send him a message and lick my butt?msla wrote:We have 2 cats. Re: Sleep Apnea, a cat conspiracy?!
Jay Jay snores too. I keep wondering if a small nasal mask would make a good fitting full face mask for him. I don't hear him gasp though, so it is just mild snoring.
When I first started cpap, both cats came up to me cautiously and sniffed the mask while it was blowing air. They both seemed satisfied that it was not dangerous.
Then, in November, I went to a cat show in Oregon, and took a friend's cat with me as she could not go. I had a tent for him, but everybody seemed to tolerate each other, so I let all 3 of them stay loose in the hotel room while I slept. I woke up about 2:30 am with my mask being swatted by the friend's cat. It was very startling to wake up with my face being smacked and a huge cat face right in my face. He was clearly not happy about the mask attacking me. It was pretty funny.

Re: Sleep Apnea, a cat conspiracy?!
Our kitty won't come real close to me when I'm resting with the mask and cpap on. She hates the cool, moist air coming out the vent. Interestingly though, she's down for morning cat hugs if the machine is off but the mask is still on. Course she gets her morning treat right after so she's got an ulterior motive!zoocrewphoto wrote:Jay Jay snores too. I think I should have her designated as my service pet and then I can take her with me everywhere.RogerSC wrote:
Great story...sounds like a "service" cat *smile*. We don't allow the cat in the bedroom at night because she keeps us awake doing the things that cats do on the bed. I'm talking about grooming and scratching, and so on, just so that's clear.
My Maine coon snores loud enough to wake the dead. I wish I could get her a kitty size mask.

My kitties come into the bedroom by 'invitation only' to get loved on while they watch TV in the evenings. If I let everyone in the bedroom, there would be no bed for us. We have 10 wonderful kitties, all rescues. The beautiful kitties in some of the avatar's here make me believe we all have something in common beyond CPAP.

I have a queen size bed so that there is room for everybody. I'm the only human. Currently, I have only 2 cats who sleep on the bed. But when I was in high school, I had a twin bed. I also had a 35 lb dog, 2 cats, and my sister's cat sleeping on my bed. They would steal my covers, and I fell out of bed a few times. I got the queen size bed, and things improved immediately.

Most don't sleep with us, but we have one that will once in a while. The machine doesn't bother her in the least bit...

Re: Sleep Apnea, a cat conspiracy?!
Our tab was a semi-ferral however she decided that we were her new family after the local cat protection society captured her entire colony and put them all down. We only managed to save her as she was en-route to face the same fate. Even though she is a very nervy cat around strangers, she is the most loving, berautiful, faithful family member. She won't climb on our bed however she has the choice of four luxurious lambs wool mats, a cupboard and huge cat bed to choose from - and that's just in our bedroom. I think she is a bit spoiled!

I upgraded to a Queen for the same reason, typically now I "only" have 3 cats to share my bed with. The others have staked other places out.zoocrewphoto wrote:jencat824 wrote:My kitties come into the bedroom by 'invitation only' to get loved on while they watch TV in the evenings. Hate it when people say our pets are spoiled - they're just treated well. Very very well.
