Nose felt like it was on fire

Post by cosmo » Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:43 am

I was awaken at 4am to some serious nose pain. Felt as if it was burning. I thought maybe the pressure was blasting at the max for a while but it was currently at 10cm.

Room temp is always kept warm at 76-77 F so I don't use a heated humidifier unit. I took a look at my room temperature monitor and humidity level was at 22%. Bingo! The weather had been a little colder for the past week and the heater was on for longer durations causing the room to be more dry.

I normally use a room humidifier but decided not to on this night to give the room a break from all of the moisture and not grow any fungus. Needless to say, I turned it back on at full blast. I also opened the window for a handful of minutes to get some fresh air in.

I decided to use the ResMed humidifier unit in passover mode with no climateline or heat. I also bumped the max pressure of the S9 down which I should have not done. 5-13 to 5-9. A few events happened afterwards. I also gave my nose a squirt of saline spray and went back to bed. Everything was good again.

I also had the lowest AHI ever even with these issues. AHI of .62, 4 events in total. The Zeo score was not so great.

I will keep the cpap humidifier attached and use in passover mode. Hope this might help some newbies who might run into the same situation.

This is my room humidifier setup taken at an earlier time. But I don't recommend this particular unit as it is hard to clean and fill with water.

Cosmo, I don't understand why you don't use the S9 humidifier and Climateline tube. Northern CA has been so chilly lately, I really enjoy the warmth.

I use both--year round.
I just change the temperature setting.

The few times I did try to use the heated humidifier unit, nothing happened and the tub was still full of water or it tripped the circuit breaker and off went the power I have too many computers, servers, gadgets, etc plugged in so I gave up on it.

I have the central heat set to 69F and bedroom has a medium tower heater set at 76F-77F. I have enough warmth. I will try it again one of these days.

So if I understand correctly....the key to getting a low ahi is setting your nose on fire....hmmm.....makes sense....more sense than most of the things i've tried.....now where'd I put my tube of nipple cream?

No, the key is to have a near death experience while on the cpap

Choking on your own tongue doesn't count.

We have all 3 desktop computers at my house turned off at night. I guess if you left your computers on all night, power could be an issue...although computers don't take that much power. Do you have more than one circuit in the place where you live *smile*?

Entire upstairs, 3bd townhouse is serviced by this little guy. I'm pretty sure its a 20amp. Its only one side of the circuit breaker. I have 3 low power servers that are always on. Overnight, I might have other things charging and sometimes my main desktop running doing some task. But the main draw is the medium size space heater, 1500 watts. The climateline hose and heated humidifier unit is also a power hungry unit. I forgot what I had measured it at with my Belkin power meter but I'll check later on today.

I would stick in a higher rated circuit breaker but I don't know its safe to do so and don't want to see a fire destroy a baseball collection I treasure.

Just a thought, but electric blankets take a lot less energy than a 1500 watt space heater. And a down blanket even less. I'm sure that there's a reason why you need to run the space heater at night, though.

I do have an electric blanket in a closet somewhere. I'll try to use that while I sleep with central heat being around 70f. I'll see about turning on this heated humidifier/climateline so I wont be breathing in cold air.

Hopefully I don't get sick

I think I'd go broke if I kept my house that warm in the winter here in New England.

The thermostat is programed for 64 for night and while we are at work.... it only goes to 67 when we are home weeknights & weekends.

I would die 10,000 deaths in a warm room at night. My bedroom is probably around 55-58 degrees. I use just a sheet and a down comforter and I'm warm as toast. I believe all my breathing passages would seize up in a warm room. DEAN

I did turn the tower space heater down to 73f and I was fine with the less warm temp. I will try to locate the electric blanket soon and try to with no space heater.

During the summer, the AC only needs to be on for about 15 - 20 days total Gotta love the weather here.

Yeah, plugging in a higher amp breaker without knowing the current wiring situation would be a very bad thing! Regardless of your humidity situation it might make sense to do some amp calculations based on your existing load. You could literally be playing with fire, so PLEASE don’t touch that breaker.

Sounds like a good plan. DEAN
