If you put enough peroxide in the water to kill germs, it will probably irritate your throat.

If you just add a few drops, you might as well just wave your hands over it and say "Death to all germs!!!" It might make you feel better, but it won't kill anything.

That's 100% quackery.

Hydrogen peroxide is generally bad stuff for the human body. Even used on cuts, it's used in very weak dilutions. Even then it's becoming somewhat out of favor because it sort of burns your tissues while it kills germs.

You need to look into "food grade hydrogen peroxide". I put 12 drops of 35% H2O2 in my one pint CPAP humidifier every night. My sinuses are virtually clear every day, I used to have such a problem with clogged sinuses. I have been doing this for four months. It is a natural disinfectant that kills both bacteria and viruses. It is just a great side effect that it cleans the humifier of germs. I have not contracted any colds or flu in those four months.

On Jan 5 of this year someone posted a garbage post, in a sort of old thread,and that post has since been removed but it looks like someone responded maybe during the removal process so the post got stuck on the forum main page.
Sometimes we forget to look at dates.
Then it looks like others also chimed in about the H2O2 "benefits" so the thread got up front again.

... I used to wear contacts and had a high protein concentration in my tears. I used a specially made hydrogen peroxide system for cleaning that helped to keep the protein at bay. There were two vials and the contact lenses were contained in a basket system connected to a lid. There was a solid (silver?) catalyst in the other vial that was filled with saline and then the lenses had to be soaked in that vial for something like, maybe, 6 hours before they could be worn...

That is still one of the most popular methods of disinfecting contact lenses. And that is really a misnomer; to be "disinfected" sort of implies that they have to be "infected" first. The idea is that deposits precipitate out of your tear system and cling to the hydrophillic lens surface like barnacles to a ship, which is why you throw them away after a while. The hydrogen peroxide removes most of that attached sludge.

The solution is mild hydrogen peroxide, but the platinum catalyst turns that into simple saline overnight, so you really never get HP in your eyes, unless you mistake that bottle (red top) for a normal saline solution bottle (white top) and rinse your lenses with it, or (God forbid) try to put some directly in your eye because it might feel dry. That will sting pretty good, just to remind you that you did that.

So let's stop the Ebola fear train. HP is safe when used correctly for the correct things, and is not safe when used incorrectly for incorrect things. But putting it in your humidifier might fall in either category, so I would err on the side of caution.

It is always best to do what IS safe rather than what you think or hear or see on the internet as "might be" safe. All things in moderation.

...Back in the 70's I was watching TV in a big ole bean bag at my girlfriends house, she was messing around and dropped one of those white styrofoam beans from the bean bag into my ear. We couldn't get it out so she squirted some Hydrogen Peroxide in it and it boiled it out (lots of sizzling action just like a stroke), I asked her can you do the other side?

That is actually pretty scary. I know what the 70's were like, but come on. Not only is it dangerous to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear, why would anyone, even addled by 70's recreational indulgences, think that HP would be the right path here? Certain things, like scabs, and to some extent ear wax, will boil away when in the presence of HP, but how would anyone know that this might not be a prelude to real tragedy in this situation? You might be lucky that the combo of bean and HP didn't act like that expanding foam insulation stuff. Talk about dodging a bullet; this sounds like an adventure that Moe, Larry, and Curly might have had.

My guess would be that styrofoam, not being organic, would not react at all with HP, but that would also be a guess that I would not like to prove the hard way. The "boiling" was probably just ear wax, and just the simple fact that you placed any sort of liquid in your ear would probably act as leverage against anything as buoyant as styrofoam, and simply allow it to rise to the surface. Tap water probably would have worked.

But I get it; I've had girlfriends like that. Some of my favorites; they make life interesting.
