dental cream/fixadent on mouth works better than tape for me

So, Polygrip doesn't pull the skin from your lips?

My lips are very dry, scaly and tender, and no matter what I do with tape, it either pulls skin and leaves a very sore lip or I have too much lip balm and the tape won't stick. I can't find a happy medium. This might be the solution for me. I will surely try tonight. If I have time to get to the store.

I know this is off subject but my closest cousin's (nearest to a sister for either of us) husband had a massive stroke Sunday (April 30) and I haven't been home a lot since then or shopping etc. Please keep them in your prayers. Their names are Susan, Rondy and daughters P.J., Lisa and son Tommy.

I'm almost game to try the strips. My only questions are, how easy is it to get the strip off and how do you get it off.

Oh dear...

If I were going to buy those items I'd go to Wally World and then use one of their self check out lines. I would not want the cashier to speculate on what I needed all that stuff for at the same time. I know I should not care what they think.....but still....yikes

NightHawkeye, the strips are very easy to take off. I just pull on one end and they just peel right off. I dont have any of the goo left over like I did with the tube stuff. You just have to make sure you get the corners sealed good.

Then a little warm water washes off any residual. I cut one strip in two and used one on each side of my mouth and it worked like a charm.

Much, much friendlier than the tube of goo!

Woozle, I just want you to know that you are brilliant! I tried it over the weekend and through this week, and it works really well. SOOO easy to get off. If you need to open your mouth, you just moisten your lips.

Funny, I pictured a whole world of CPAP users going to the store and buying poligrip or fixadent this weekend!

You should get a standing ovation for your really creative and fabulous idea. Thanks so much!!

Snoozin' Bluezz,
Could you elaborate/clarify a little? I envision cutting the strip lengthwise as I think they are a little short to span my dainty lips in one piece. So two pieces side by side and one slid to increase the total length. They look a little narrower than 1/4 inch. Am I on the right track for tonight's first try of the strips?

I cut them in half, (crosswise, not lengthwise). I do not have them spanning my entire bouche. I think Idahogal had it correct, the corners are most important so I put 1/2 half on one side and 1/2 on the other. It seems that all I really require is a reminder that I can't open my mouth and these work very, very well for that. I am a real happy camper with this. It is so much more pleasant than tape and worlds better than the glue and as long as it works I will stick with it.

Strips are the clear winner for me! I used them last night all night long and loved it. This morning I just zipped them right off and with a rinse of water I was good to go. Amazing what we can come up with around here isn't it?

I used the strips with a mixed result. I need to experiment some more. I felt like I had a couple pieces of plastic stuck there, not enough moisture to soften them at first. They stick a lot harder than the paste but are so much neater that I will have to find a way to make them work. I may end up using more than one strip in order to have a full seal across my mouth.

Well, reading the instructions provide a whole different experience. Dangit. Went through the night with a few adjustment to the Swift and NOTHING else. The seal worked perfectly on the lips. I'll run the numbers this weekend but I suspect the large leaks will be a thing of the past.
Good stuff these strips.

I have have kept using the Poligrip strips and they really do work quite well for me. They can be a bit of a pain to wet and apply precisely. They get sticky quickly so to apply them exactly where I want them is a little tricky but they work much better if the are pretty thoroughy pre-dampened. I think I'll try wetting and placing them with tweezers.

All that being said, they do work like a dream for me. No tape, good seal all night, easy to get off in the morning. A really winner for me!

I have used the PoliGrip strips, too, the past three nights and they are far better than the Fixodent cream. I don't have any trouble applying them if I don't over dampen them because otherwise they can become too soft and mushy. I just place it on the bottom lip and bring the top one down, then press on the two lips at the place where I want it to seal together for a half-minute or so and I find it works really well. I don't try to open my lips for a few minutes, but after awhile it sticks.

I find it simple to remove in the morning and no sore lips, as the Fixodent was causing. Not to mention, this is far less messy. This is the best way, IMHO, to seal my mouth so far.

I tried the fixodent, moved on to the poligrip strips. While those work, I went back to taping.

Just find tape more convenient -- less hassle, quick to do, no need to sit there clenching my lips closed for 30-60 seconds...Just close mouth, tape, and I'm good to go.

The next morning, it's easy to remove. I either pull it off directly, or to reduce irritation, do it in the shower or after applying a hot towel.
