Biggest bust in NFL history diagnosed with sleep apnea

Post by johnthomasmacdonald » Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:32 pm

Jamarcus Russell the overall number one pick by the Oakland Raiders who totally flamed out at quarterback - he got fat and he used to FALL ASLEEP at meetings was diagnosed with sleep apnea after getting thrown out of the NFL. Supposedly Shaq has it too.

So does Adrian Peterson (one of the Vikings' better players). Don't remember which one, but I recall watching an NBA star doing a demonstration of his cpap treatment on some nationally televised program.

I Googled the Adrian Peterson sleep apnea thing and came up with nothing except posters on forums. But I found a whole lot for Percy Harvin, also of the Vikings. Are we sure that it's not him and not Peterson?

Reggie White, NFL Defensive End for Eagles and Packers DIED from OSA at the age of 43. When he retired from the NFL in 2000, he held the NFL record for the most sacks.

I am inferring from the article that the apnea was diagnosed when he was still an Oakland Raider.

It just seems there is more to the story than just apnea since a team is going to do everything possible not to give up on a number one draft choice. Also, I find it interesting in a league desperate for quarterbacks that no other teams have given him another chance.

After reading the thread title I thought that maybe you were talking about one of the NFL cheerleaders...

49er: I think you answered your own question. Back up quarterbacks can make millions carrying a clipboard. He obviously has nothing in the tank or some desperate team, such as Green Bay, Dallas or the Baltimore Colts would sign him. Heck, he can't even get signed on to some teams practice squad!

"desperate team such as Green Bay"? Did you watch them stomp all over Minnesota last night? Dallas, well, yeah we're kinda desperate. Romo has pretty good numbers overall, but he sucks when it counts. And I know you gotta know it's not Baltimore Colts any more...

I see on Wikipedia that Jamarcus Russell was arrested, but not indicted, for "being in possession of codeine syrup without a valid prescription." Supposedly that arrest has made it unlikely that he'll ever catch on with another team, according to a Sports Illustrated article and interview. Perhaps just an excuse, perhaps some truth to it...
