don't even know the names of all of them but I believe 5 is my number. Maybe we need to create a list of who different ones are good for? I know some that aren't good with a number of 14. And some that aren't good with long straight hair!!! Cant find one that stays in place, keep going back to the original, but it does hurt as I attempt to keep it in place at night. Doent improve my sleep waitings when I keep waking up to adjust the headgear 4Xs a night

Ah yes, the general "taboo" against "comfort" masks - but did you see, even RG gave in and ok'ed "comfort" when it came with the comfort lite 2!

I think we should pool our pennies and offer a prize to whomever can prove they have the largest collection of masks. Yes, a contest! It must be a mask that has been tried and rejected or tried and used - and one that is still in your house. Anyone want to go for the prize? OK, it might not be monetary, but forum-wide fame is not a bad reward!

I, personally, am lucky that I was able to try before buying, so I only own one mask, my Breeze, and have ordered the CL2. So I can only claim a meager #2 on this front.

Regards,
AII

masks, masks...is there really one that works?

Post by KMfromLV » Wed May 03, 2006 1:13 am

I have been on CPAP for a year now, my DME place came, dropped off and left...never to be heard from again.....they gave me a ComfortGel small and I had a lot of leakage into my eyes. Then I ordered a petite from CPAP.COM...much, much better. I use the small if I start to get irritation under my nose (or a nasty zit). I love mine and had immediate results.

My hubby just got a CPAP of his own (yea!!). His DME brought out F&P407 (petite) and a heated humidifier F&P 105. After 2 days, he had a sore under his nose so he refused to wear it until his nose healed. I turned his heater down from 3 to 1 and he's sleeping better, but not great. He has a beard & mustache, so I'm wondering if that's an issue, too.

HIs Cpap is set for 16, where mine is only 7.

He says that he's still real tired, too. Any ideas out there?

Also.......any ideas if I can get one for the dog....then I'll have a very quiet bedroom!!

Thanks for asking, Ric. .

I have four masks.
- Ultra Mirage FFM: I like it but it pushes my jaw back and increases my apnea.
- Ultra Mirage Nasal: This was my mask until I graduated to the Swift.
- Mirage Swift: I like it, but it's kinda finicky about position.
- ComfortLite 2: I'm making friends with this one. Appears at least on par with the Swift, possibly better because it seems to stay in place better, although I'm not sure leaks are tamed enough. I also am not sure how well the pillows are going to hold up in the long term. Whereas the Swift pillows are pretty much unchanged after a couple months use, the ComfortLite 2 pillows have already changed shape. That's good in the short term, but I'm a little wary of the long term prospects for it.

I considered the Activa, and am still intrigued by the mask. Don't remember why exactly I bypassed it, although it wasn't because of its lovesick octopus nature. Judging from comments on this forum, it is one of the better masks available, but somewhat unique in its characteristics. My impression is that folks either love it or hate it. I would think that would make it problematic for any DME.

I'm not actively considering any other masks currently.

Regards,
Bill

3 months on xPAP, 3 masks.

I have a UM Nasal Mask - works well but does leakoccasionally almost every night - needs a quick readjust but it wakes me up on and off. Good mask though. COmfortable - other than the occasional leak.

Swift: I have posted on this one, Mione os going to be thrown in a trunk and be given a one way ride to a landfill in New Jersey. I've nicknamed my Swift, Chuckie. I keep it in case a monsoon hits and my other masks get washed away.

Activa: Just got this one - I intend to make friends with the Octopus.

Looks like a pattern, Tom. I've been on xPAP four months and have four masks. .

Hmm . . ., at $100 per month this could get expensive .

Bill

if you have a DME funding source, how about a different mask to match each sleep outfit, or to match each mood? this could be like a sleep accessory or fashion thing.

If you have one that fits, why buy another one? I have one that fits, but does
not do the job, so I will be getting a "nose mask" tomorrow.

But five masks? Ten masks? Why??

Search for "Holy Grail" of masks?

And some of you mention a "cpap" allowance or "mask" allowance per year or
something like that???

Maybe I should call Tricare to see what they provide.

Can you scratch your nose with your mask on?

That is, does it have hard plastic over your nose so you have to take it off to scratch it? Or does it have a "hole" in the plastic with the rubber face mask under it? I have a painter's repiratory mask that has two holes in the hard plastic so you can scratch or rub your nose if you need to. And the vibration...the pressure...whatever makes my nose itch.

Sorry to ask so many questions, but my learning curce is straight up and I
may have to make a decision on a nose mask around noon tomorrow.

So...comfortable nose mask that allows you to scratch your nose.......and
the winner is___________________________???
