Wardmiller, I finalliy realized that I could read on the Kindle if I increase the font size or you can enable text to speech on many of the models for a the recently published books.

I work out a couple of times a week with a trainer to keep me motivated.

During the summer I was running with the dog early in the morning before the parents woke up. But then it stayed dark later and then in October the snow started. I can't run and breathe when it is cold.
There is a gym at the seniors centre not far from me but it closes at 3:30pm and on weekends and I can't go mornings because that is when my sister sleeps (she does the night coverage for the old folks) and three afternoons we have respite and we escape to shop. So that makes it available only Mondays and Thursdays.
I do get weight training lifting mom in and out of her chair and wheelchair.

It's an excellent question you ask, and yes I exercise this 64 year-old bod regularly.

I run at least a couple of times a week, and I'm usually training for a race of some kind (I like 10 ks best, but I run shorter ones too, and one half marathon per year.)

I also do weights and core 3 or so times a week.

I also like biking and hiking.

Exercise makes everything you do better. You lose weight, and you also re-arrange things, trading muscle for fat. Don't feel you need to be a runner or a biker, a brisk walk does wonders for a lot of folks.

BTW, as you might expect, xpap therapy makes exercise easier (you deal w less inflammation for example), and exercise makes sleep better. It's truly a win win.

If you haven't done it for a while, check w the doc first. Make sure it's fun, or you'll find an excuse to quit. Oh, and once you get in the routine of exercising, don't reward yourself with ice cream (guess how I know this).

Wishing all a good and active New Year!

This thread is inspiring me! I'm thinking about switching from my boring treadmill walks to something a little more fun and rejuvenating for the new year and discovered this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2D5VaxZNM4
I'm 60 with degenerative disc disease -- what do you think my chances are?

I'm curious what the rest of you do for exercise and what you do to keep with it.
Hi eeckel,

I remember using steps in my building to get my heart rate up to aerobic levels. I remember walking to the store and back - less than a mile but what I could do at the time.

I have gone through several pedometers. I now use and am trying to keep (need to change the battery!) an Ipod 6th generation Nano. It is about an inch and a half square and is tethered to my belt loop and clipped to my belt (the tether - it is small and is $175.00 to me new so...). The thing is it simply records my steps - all day every day. I have the usual goal of 10,000 steps a day and seem to get about 65% of that in the winter and up to 85% of that so far in the summer.

I get a bit closer every year. It keeps me moving over 100 miles each month. I have been considering replacing it with a cheaper model but it is now proving useful in the gym - built in FM and the TVs have transmitters! Motivation, motivation, motivation. Gonna do a favorite TV show (no TV at home my choice) while on the cycle or treadmill or rowing.

In my case tech motivates, now TV - an old enemy - can motivate to good. I like that.

Did take the plunge and have the gym membership and have over a month of weekly personal trainer sessions. I have lower body strength but have never built upper body strength. Last time I tried on a Total Gym my rotator cuff began to tear. This time my personal trainer is moving my strength forward without harm. I am growing to love my three or so visits to the gym each week and find I do feel better.

I walk everywhere so this keeps the number of steps up. We have hills here so I can pop on my pulse oximeter and monitor my heart rate and make the hills little 85% of maximum heart rate training sessions. With 50 or so pounds in the pack from the store that is not too hard to do. Sand the floor!

Manage stress, breath eucapnically, **move well**, eat well. It works for me.

Have a lot of fun!

This is an inspiring post. I used to love to exercise but the past five years I just ct do it with my sleep apnea. It was a huge fight to just go up and down the stairs let alone anything else. I have been using my cpap for a month and a half and started exercising again. I feel so much better I want to do everything!!!

I started up yoga again and have been going to the gym acouple days a week and am feeling better everyday. It is going to take a while for me to get back into the shape I was before and that is ok. At least I am able to do it again. What a difference....I can actually enjoy it again. Yippee!!!

Good luck to everyone with their program.

Way to go, Sleepigal. Pat yourself on the back for kicking it up a notch (a couple of big notches, actually)

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Three days on, one day off for rest at least thirty minutes of aerobics, more if I can get the time to do it.

Stationary Bike
Step Aerobics,
Floor Aerobics,
Walking on the do hicky over there. (Rotate these four)

A LOT stretching

Low weight high rep arm work
Situps
leg lifts
leg presses (no weight)

The three days on one day off will eventually change to three days push one day slow.

Oh, and I find that if I don't do it IN THE MORNING - I won't work out - as I usually run out of juice mid afternoon.

Three 30 minute weight training w/cardio sessions w/trainer (Mon/Wed/Fri) every week... I try to do more on my own but often don't get around to it.

My wife and I have a small gym in our basement with lots of equipment, both strength training and aerobic machines. We've been working out ~5 days a week for ~25 years now, being in shape helps everything!

So every morning, right after coffee, we head down to the 'dungeon' for an hour or so.

I was looking for more time to READ - great idea about only reading your kindle when you work out - great incentive to work out and great idea to get some reading time for a BOOK in.

Hi wardmiller!

I do the basic 8 as well. I do not have TV at home so the TV at the club is a draw.

I have, like you, find the Kindle useful for treadmill/cycle time. Indeed, I am thinking about getting a Kindle Fire HD and a small wireless keyboard so I can do full internet research while at the gym. I love to read medical papers but need to look up a lot of words and concepts and indeed end up reading additional research papers as I am inspired by the one I started with. Not only would this be good at the gym, as I bike hike it is less in the pack.

I remember a video article by men's fittness where they discussed getting rid of the chair in the office and rather use a stand up desk with a slow moving treadmill. I guess time in the chair is directly related to all sorts of medical problems.

Have a great week!
