CL2 question: Direct Seal vs. Nasal Pillows

Post by Ric » Mon May 08, 2006 10:31 pm

Regarding the ComfortLite-2, it looks like one must choose one or the other when ordering: Direct Seal, or Nasal Pillows (simple cushion is included for each). Having tried neither, but having used a Swift pillow system, as well as several nasal masks (UMII, Activa, SomnoPlus), what is the collective experience here given the two choices? DS or NP? Where should I start? Has anybody here tried both technologies. Which do you prefer? Or does the "simple cushion" obviate the other two? I guess that makes THREE choices. (I'm on the horns of a trilemma. HELP !)

for me, the design of the CL2 didn't put enough pressure on the simple cushion against my face to keep it from leaking (without adding another strap). CL2 held nasal pillows well. Did not try the direct seal, but if I had to do it again, would order the pillows and direct seal.

I voted for the nasal pillows. The "simple cushion" (the little covers-the-nose-thingy) leaked for me.

But....recently I was able to successfully wear the simple cushion with complete leak-proofness. Because....(and I know I sound like a broken record)... becuz of adding that infamous soft homemade strap around my head at nostril level to hold the simple cushion in place perfectly.

I still voted for the pillows though, as those hold a seal better if a person is not gonna add an extra strap of some kind.

I'm balding and th cl2 was slipping back on my head. I ended up using my chip stap after the cl2 to keep it in place. I also have a swift nasal pillow mask, but my current pressure of 15 was blowing so much out of co2 holes that in sounded like I was at the airport tarmac.

(bump)

Just wanted to point out that of the 10 respondents to this question, NOBODY seems to be using the direct seal. Of the other 2 categories, i guess we don't hafta choose, they all come with the cushion, apparently. Guess I'm ready to order. THANKS for all the good advice.

Direct Seal Cushions

Post by steven0104 » Wed May 24, 2006 2:16 pm

I have been using the Direct Seal Cushions with the original ComfortLite and now with the ComfortLite 2. The ComfortLite 2 is a definite improvement.

I use the size 5 Direct Seal Cushion - the most common size. Fortunately, size 5 is always included in the combination package - with either size 4 (smaller) or size 6 (the largest size).

I am very happy with the Direct Seal cushion.

Unfortunately, I have yet to try the pillow cushion, making comparison difficult.

The Direct Seal cushion does not enter my nose and rarely leaks.
My pressures run 10 to 15.

Respironics Reps, if you are out there reading this:
Let us buy the CL2 with a choice of one, two or three interfaces! And let us choose what combination we want! Why must we have the simple cushion as one of our choices if we don't think we need it? And why can't we opt to have Direct Seal and Cushions as our two options? Or to pay a few dollars more and get the whole kit and kaboodle?
Thank you for you kind attention to this matter.
And when you start shipping out of the USA, you will go up a few notches on a lot of measuring sticks.
Sincerely,
AII
