Re: What is the most extravagant thing you bought for Cpap use
I guess the asv machine and the s9 vpap s and the upgrade to the system one bipap auto and the dental appliance that all were paid for entirely out of pocket - but i don't view it as particularly extravagant since i spend over 1/3 of my life sleeping and i've been unable to get my apnea under control - if the first system one auto cpap machine recommended to me at diagnosis had worked for me, i would have stopped right there. I view it as an investment in myself, i work in research and any improvement in thinking during the day is crucial to my work.
I don't care about things like the car i drive or anything for appearance sake - all old clothes - and i still drive a 1986 volvo which i love and wouldn't consider replacing until it could not be repaired. so i save money on stuff like that and spend it on health and books - my biggest expense in life is books including the course book to be a polysomnography technician .
a useless extravagance has been the almost $10,000 a year I spent on a US health insurance policy that is worse than useless - they won't pay for anything, you have to fight them for EVERY medical expense even though i only use the doctors/hospitals in THEIR network. Cheaper and far better to just fly back to england when i need healthcare ( i need a card, " in case of emergency place cardholder on a British Airways flight to Heathrow - For example, not only did they refuse to pay for a sleep test, they had the nerve to refuse payment to the sleep doctor for the appointment ( not that she did anything- she even claimed the Sd card was unreadable - funny how pugsy was able to read it ) with the claim that it was PRE-EXISTING - even though i got it diagnosed with a home test that I paid for AFTER they refused to pay for an in house sleep test
Americans just don't get how inefficient, expensive and corrupt their healthcare system is since so few of them have lived in any other country - so they can't compare and they believe that to even question that not everything in America is THE BEST IN THE WORLD is unpatriotic -

Re: What is the most extravagant thing you bought for Cpap use
Well, I bought a PRS1 Auto even though I already had one, but it was only $200.
Then I decided to buy a S9 AutoSet because it was only $300, and I wanted to try it. I use it as my regular machine now, so I'm glad I did.
Now I'm waiting for an S9 VPAP Auto to pop up at a good enough price, but I expect to wait for a while.
I use my 8 year old Legacy Respironics Plus brick to dry hoses. For everything else, I have two sets and let them dry in the dishwasher after washing, or just let them dry in the open air. I noticed my hose took forever to dry, so I started using the old CPAP. Instead of buying a dryer, why not just find a cheap, dumb brick CPAP used?

It uses activated oxygen, no water, to clean your machine

For the record, some Americans do get how inefficient, expensive, and corrupt the current (and very heavily regulated) healthcare system is, they just don't view additional inefficient, expensive, and corrupt (federal) government control as a solution to that problem.johnthomasmacdonald wrote:Americans just don't get how inefficient, expensive and corrupt their healthcare system is since so few of them have lived in any other country - so they can't compare and they believe that to even question that not everything in America is THE BEST IN THE WORLD is unpatriotic -
So as to not completely hijack the thread, I also have the Zeo and CMS pulse ox. But should I really count them as an extravagant CPAP purchase? I'm not using them with my CPAP device. I'm afraid the most extravagant thing I've bought for my CPAP use is an extra hose in case my original one breaks.

we have the LEAST government control of health care of any major nation and it is the most expensive BY FAR - no one close in total or per capita - with a rather pathetic outcome however you measure it - life expectency, health, infant mortality - we come in around 40th in the world
so we have less government involvement than any of the countries that are delivering vastly superior and cheaper healthcare yet you figure the answer is even LESS government involvement -how's that work exactly?

The more I look at that CPAP dryer unit, the more I like it.
The hard plastic part of my Quattro mask goes in the dishwasher once a week.... But it would work for the rest of the parts.
Would there be any issue with using it on a Climate line hose?

I dry mine in it and have had no problems. The temperature is 120 degrees for drying.Denial Dave wrote:Would there be any issue with using it on a Climate line hose?

I don't see any mention of at-home care. Has nobody paid for a nice woman to visit at night to sanitize the unit and help strap you in at bedtime?
