OT - POLITICS AND OTHER RANTS

Post by jen4700 » Tue Nov 27, 2012 10:43 am

I value the CPAP and OSA and RELATED info that I get on this forum. I haven't been here that long, but I've noticed over the last six months that there have been more and more posts about politics and other OT rants.

I'm a very opinionated political junkie. However, I've never posted my opinions about politics here. This is a CPAP board. I go elsewhere for discussions about politics and other non-cpap topics. General discussions about health care policy can also be made somewhere else.

KEEP YOUR POLITICS TO YOURSELF OR POST ELSEWHERE.

At the VERY LEAST make sure you put OT (off topic) at the beginning of the subject line.

And for those that are going to cry "free speech" then go for it. I'm allowed to my opinion too.

Would this be considered a "meta rant"? A rant about rants? (just being funny, don't take me too seriously).

I think that discussions about insurance is germane to us here who are impacted in our payments, costs, treatment, strategies. Unfortunately it is the politicians that have made insurance and medical "care" (ha!) political.

I'm very opinionated as well (and very stubborn in my opinions and beliefs!), so I have learned--for the most part--to stay away from the topics that I know will get me worked up. If someone forgets to put "OT," no biggie. Once I realize it's something I don't want to mess with or am just not interested in, I just click on to something else. I do find some of the OT topics very interesting especially those that, although not cpap, are health related.

I've been a member here for almost six years. It's always been this way and always will. Some really don't like all the OT talk (especially the political and religious); others say it's part of the charm! However you look at it, it won't change, and it's worth weeding through what you have no interest in to get at what is so helpful.

"KEEP YOUR POLITICS TO YOURSELF OR POST ELSEWHERE."

Wow, I don't know how to ask this politely... who made you judge and jury of this forum and what anyone does here?

We've been at it on all kinds of things for a long time and like it that way. I do agree we should use OT when things come up that are not OSA related, but sometimes it happens in the middle of a thread and just keeps going.

A much more learned person than I am once said something pretty good - 'If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen', and I think it's not a bad thing to go by... rather than trying to change us, why not learn to either appreciate the heat or else find a place that's less of a problem for you. If there were no controversy in life, I think most of us would curl up and die within a very short time... not much fun at all. I'm not suggesting you leave, but maybe just (as another poster mentioned) avoid what you're not interested in being part of.

And I absolutely fail to see how talking about something else on occasion takes away from talking about Cpap in any case.

WearyOne - thanks for talking me off the cliff.

Julie - not judge and jury. Just exercising my right to rant.

I think that was what the “Road Runner” said to “Wile Coyote" as the coyote ran off the cliff.

Wow - a $1 for my thoughts? Thanks so much!!! I guess there's been quite a bit of inflation since "penny for your thoughts" was popular!
