yes and No
Some devices can sense a usb connection and power on, also it is possible to turn on a device from the computer using a command as well Although this is not common but it is possible

Sadly, I can't keep the CMS50F Wrist model with finger (soft - oh yea? finger probe) on all night. I wake up with pain in the given finger it's on and end up taking it off so I haven't got to test things out with the knowledge I've gained on this board on matching it's data to SleepyHead. *sigh*

That "soft" finger probe is not all that soft after a couple of hours
Have you tried putting it on your little finger? It works for me. Secure it with a band aid or something if it's not snug enough to stay in place.

Thanks for the tip. I might try that. Can't figure out why it causes so much finger pain... Is there some kind of small needles in it I wonder. (I've tried to look up inside the probe but can't really tell). Do you think the "pinky" or trying it on the tougher "thumb" would be better...? Hrmmm. I can't seem to win in this ordeal. First I got that damn CMS50EW that was supposed to be the plain E model., then the company did the exchange for this pricier F model at no extra cost (The only other alternative they had to offer as they don't stock that D+ one..) and now I can't even bare wearing the friggen thing.

You know I am beginning to think that you have seriously pissed off the CPAP gods for some reason and you may need to be thinking about an appropriate sacrifice to them to get back on their good side.
Either that or the aliens are having a hay day with you..but as long as they leave me alone...well you make a good sacrifice.

Like shaving my head or peeing against the wind? What kind of sacrifice do you think

Lazer, I think Pugsy is right. Bow to the xpap gods and beg forgiveness, or at least change fingers!

Well, I don't know...from your picture it doesn't look like shaving your head would be much of a sacrifice...not much hair there to shave.. Don't know about peeing against the wind.....
For sure don't go taping the sensor on the middle finger though....that is really asking for trouble.

Lol, I've tried it on my middle finger already and my pointer finger. Actually on both hands now. The last time when I tried it on my left pointer finger, I woke up 2 hours later in miserable pain and quickly took it off. I don't understand what it is in this "Soft" type probe as opposed to the single unit one which never gave me any kind of pain. There is some kind of metal or something up in there that is causing this. Maybe I'm allergic to it?

Don't know. I have never seen one. Is it possible that where the wrist portion of this thing is...that it is maybe putting pressure on a nerve somehow somewhere? Or do you think that maybe since you like pink and use nasal pillows you are turning into a wuss?
I am off to make a suitable sacrifice to the cpap gods thanking them for my not having any significant desats or problems so that I don't have to wear all this crap...no pulse ox....no Zeo...no chin strap..no tape....just wear a little nasal pillow and sleep pretty darn good.

ok, I couldn't get my CMS50D+ recognized on the USB under Windows, so I searched and found
this thread. Power comes from the USB, so it works without batteries, I can switch it on.
But Windows didn't accept the connection. I may try the updating tips above later.
I could best tolerate it on my 2nd toe for recording, but haven't yet tried a full night.
It's a bit too big for a finger, you have to spread out the other fingers and I need
the fingers to hold the cushions and blanket. There should be a system with mirrors
to operate on the finger outside the device ?!

Make sure you have the correct software (a source is provided in the thread above) and make sure you are using the cable that came with the device. These are NOT standard USB cables.

yes, I did use a standard USB-cable. I had put the original cable in my big cable-box.
I could refind it from the ebay-picture. I had to use another adapter because it's so big,
but then it worked.
But only with the software. Well, I had put the CD in my CD-box and their was no
decription on it ..., but I tried the correct one at first attempt.
I installed the software from CD-drive, but then it came with some long
3rd party software licensing agreement, which I'm not going to read.
So I clicked "no" But now I can't even get the data without using their software
and when I insert the cable now I get 3 fast short beeps under Windows XP.
I may try a Linux computer later
