heated hose

Post by SnorkelPuss » Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:22 pm

Was wondering....may seem a dumb question but would a heated hose give the air coming out of the exhalation vent warmer?
I find the air cold and on new mssk it seems to go in my eyes. Bothersome.

The hose is intended to prevent rainout by warming up the hose, not to heat the air itself. However, I presume it will heat the air somewhat as well. Plus it will allow you to turn up the heat on the humidifier without getting rainout.

I put the climateline hose on my s9 a couple weeks ago and while I find the air I am breathing noticably warmer the vent air still feels cool when It blows on me.

I can only tell the difference when the room is fairly COLD.
With the Climateline "off", my nose gets cold--uncomfortably so.
With it "on", my nose stays comfortable; not really "warm", just not miserably cold.
The biggest difference is in the amount of water I can feel in the mask later in the night if there is no hose heat.
The vent air is always cold; I pull the covers up to keep my shoulders and arms warm.
I find my lips getting chilled if I forget to tape.

Resmed says it does warm the air... along with preventing rainout. The last time I used my humidifier, I could tell the difference in the air temperature. It was warmer, but as Froggie said, not sufficiently...

A heated hose will warm the air somewhat but not likely enough for you to perceive it as "warm" if it blows into your eyes. It will still likely feel rather cool but probably not as cold as without the heated hose being used.

If you have air blowing in your eyes this can lead to something serious. When I first started CPAP I had air leaks into my eye & ended up with corneal abrasions. These are bad & the damage to the eye can be permanent. Sorry to bring bad news, but if I were you, I'd work on not allowing air to leak into my eyes at any cost. Eye's are precious.

I know someone who uses one of those eye mask things that people wear while sleeping to keep light out of their eyes. She said it keeps the mask air out of her eyes and works great.

I love my heated hose. I will not give it up. I live in a cold region and is nice for the winter. I have bumped up my humidity with no rainout. I noticed the other night on the air coming off my mask was warmer. When I get i bed.. I watch tv for a little while to wind down. I pre-heat my machine as that helps prefent rainout too. I love the warm moist air. I have been tinkering but sure I am getting enough moisture. I have to refil my chamber after 2 nights because it gos bone dry!
