DeVilbiss Warranty

Post by plstrieg » Mon Nov 12, 2012 8:27 pm

I purchased the DeVilbiss Auto Adjust Travel SmartFlex CPAP machine from CPAP.com a little over 2 years ago and it has a 3 year warranty. My machine is under full warranty and it will not stay on. It turns itself off after about 5 minutes. Are you all aware that you have to pay freight for shipping your broken unit to CPAP to have it checked out? And then it is 4 - 6 weeks before you can get it back as they then ship it to DeVilbiss. And if you want a loaner - because your machine is under warranty and broken - it will cost you $139.99 to rent. I have never heard of such a product warranty... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

Warranties almost never include transport.
That is the case with practically everything.
Why did you think your CPAP would be different?

A good reason to have a spare...You can purchase used units for as little as $100 on craigslist.

Hi,

I dealt with a similar issue. See this thread.

viewtopic/t84167/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81 ... ss#p741623

Personally, I think the warranty policy is a disgrace. Once cpap.com verifies that your machine has malfunctioned, they should be allowed to send an immediate replacement. Having to then send it to Devilbiss and wait four to six seeks is insane, particularly when the machine is needed to sleep.

LSAT, I have not seen any decent machine for $100 in my area on Craigs List.

This is a reason for using a brick and mortar DME, then you would only have to bring it to the DME and they would probably also issue you a loaner while your machine is repaired.

But on the other hand, we save a lot of money buying our machines online, it's a gamble and unfortunatly not everybody wins.

Hi Burkebang,

I understand what you're saying but I still stand by what I say.

There is no justifiable reason for Devilbiss to make a customer wait up to 6 weeks for a machine to be repaired. Resmed sends an immediate replacement.

I also feel this has nothing to do with saving money buying something online as Canon sent me an immediate replacement for a multifunction machine under warranty that I had purchased online that malfunctioned. I didn't have to send mine back until I received the replacement.

If a non health care company understands that the customer is number one priority, there is no reason to accept this type of service from folks like Devilbiss when there is a health issue involved.

Just a thought, but mine (same machine) also would run for only 1-2 mins a few months ago, and then I realized it still (after a day) had not totally dried out from having had humidifier spill a bit (just a bit!) when replacing it, but the next day it was fine, so if any of this fits with your problem, maybe try waiting a day... if not, hope you find the answer.

Nope. No loaner with my brick and mortar. And the manufacturer determines whether they have to ship it back to them or they will let the DME replace it. There may be some advantages to brick and mortar over online but that wasn't one of them. At least not for me.

I have my S9 Elite as a back-up, but hubby cannot use a straight cpap,
so I am planning on getting this as a travel/disaster machine:
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/devil ... tflex.html
All things considered, this is the best choice for out of pocket purchase for me)

I also think that 6 weeks is WAY to long to repair a medical device that people really need badly.

Having a backup machine really makes sense no matter how long repairs take or what brand machine you have. I hope the situation is solved quicker than they say it will be.

In stead of using $140 on a loaner, just visit Secondwind and you can get fully checked and working backup machine for $75.
http://www.secondwindcpap.com/Used_CPAP.html

Chances are that with paying for the shipment and buying a backup, you'll still be ahead financially compared to buying it in a B&M.

chunkyfrog, The IntelliPAP is a very good machine, I rate mine above both the S9 and PRS1. You could end up with your S9 as a backup
I wish I could use mine as my primary, but my hospital, which pays for the equipment, does not support Devilbiss machines and cannot read the data and track my progress...
