battery power?
Re: battery power?
ArchAngel, on that:
You are paying considerably more than you would for similar capacity with the Diehard jumper battery.
Diehard
$150 (On sale for $100, don't know how long)
22 Ah
22 lbs
Can run without cost of ResMed converter through built in inverter at the cost of some capacity. I'll guess about the same run time as the Resp.
At Sears, I had to pay:
Order Date: 10-Nov-2012
Initial Subtotal:
$99.99
Tax:
$6.75
Shipping Charge:
$20.52
Shipping Discount
$-20.52
Total:
$106.74

Question,
Will you use the Honda generator to run the XPAP and the fridge at the same time or run the fridge and charge a battery backup during the daytime only?

Re: battery power?
Though I know you asked the other poster, I personally would use a generator only during the day. Thus only use it to charge a battery backup unit. This is especially true in a neighborhood. Loss of power tends to make everything a lot quieter than normal and would make a generator grating during the night.avi123 wrote:123.Shawn T.W. wrote:AVI, that Honda is a great machine, I would stay away from the chinese Generac ... Thanks John, I see here that Honda EU 1000i selling for $475. It would be nice to charge the Sears $100 cost ($106 total) Jumper, DURING THE DAYTIME.

Re: battery power?
Gee, the Diehard is now on sale for $90 online. I wonder if they're doing a closeout or something. Still waiting for mine to finish the manufacturer's 36 initial charge recommendation before I start playing with it.

Re: battery power?
yep, dont take any chances. Either get into an area with power or crash at the friends house. You cannot risk losing ground at warp speed by getting off cpap. A night or two for some of us---ok. But critical to stay on it any way you can.

Actually, you can check how many nights you can sleep without the XPAP, or at low pressure. To do it I, would lower the pressure on my CPAP, gradually down to 5 or 6 cm and see the results of events that were added during sleep due to this down- shift. If the resulted OAI and CAI stayed below 10 each, and the sleep quality has been as usual, then it's worth knowing.
An S9 Elite or S9 Autoset consumes only 0.9 Amp at 12 Volt DC, without using a humidifier, offering 8 hours use from a battery of 11 Amp Hours, . In such a case, the Sears
"DieHard Gold Portable Power 950 with JumpStarter DC & USB Power Source" selling now at $85.49 plus tax, but free shipping, would run the above CPAP for more than 18 hours, on a charge (when it's fully charged).

Minus some as yet unknown percent if you're planning to use the built in inverter because you don't have the ResMed DC-DC converter.avi123 wrote:would run the above CPAP for more than 18 hours, on a charge (when it's fully charged).
I think David was talking about getting somewhere permanent before you run out of battery power or gas for the generator, etc.

What a Resmed DC-DC Converter? Don't I just plug my 110 V AC 90W Resmed Power Supply into the Sears unit's 110 V AC oultet?
But, in the meantime................from Sears about my order for the Diehard Jump Starter:

Re: battery power?
Schumacher used to make really good stuff. I have a 20+ year old charger that's built like a tank. Lately, their reputation has suffered quite a bit, but unfortunately, they don't seem to have a lot of competition.
I can't find an amp hour rating for the battery in the Schumacher unit.
If you look up the owner's manual for both products, it's obvious the manuals were written by the same company. Either Schumacher makes it for Sears, or the same third party company makes it both of them. Even some of the accessory part numbers are the same.

http://c.shld.net/assets/docs/spin_prod_751319512.pdf
That doesn't mean the battery is the same capacity, though. I notice the Schumacher unit has a 200W inverter, while the Diehard has 400W. It's possible the internal battery is also different. The Schumacher has an LED light instead of the regular bulbs on the Diehard.
They look a lot like the same product with different names and a few changes. My biggest question would be if the internal battery is the same. Since the weight is about the same, there's a good chance, but no guarantee.
Were you trying to have the diehard delivered or do instore pickup? My local store had a bunch of them on the shelves and still shows them available in the store for instore pickup. You might be able to get it if you try instore pickup. You probably won't get the sale price unless you go through the web page, though. When I went into the store to pick it up, they actually went out and pulled one off the store shelves. I got an e-mail, and it told me to print off the e-mail and go to the automotive desk at the Sears store I picked. I should have just picked up a box off the shelf and went to the auto counter with it.

Arch, yes, I tried to have the 1150 model , 22Amp Hours, delivered to my home.
Tomorrow, I'll stop at their store.

Yes, the DieHard is 22 Ah. I haven't seen a rating for the Schumacher jumper battery.avi123 wrote:Arch, yes, I tried to have the 1150 model , 22Amp Hours, delivered to my home.

You can check local store stock online. You probably have to order online with local store pickup to get the sale price.

Re: battery power?
Now that I've got the jump starter, I do realize one limitation with this jumper and some other somewhat similar ones for emergency use.
Some people think they'll get a charger like this, use it during the night during a power outage and then recharge it by running a generator or taking it somewhere during the day.
One thing many of these jumper units take quite a while to recharge. I ran my Diehard unit down about half way yesterday, and it's taking over 8 hours to recharge. It's currently showing 72% charge after charging all night long.
Also, as with most units, the percent of charge indicator is not particularly reliable. I put a 12V 60W DC trouble light on it last night and the readout said about 50% charge remaining. However, when I hooked it up to the power supply, it showed 33% as it started charging.
It's still useful. You just have to realize that the charging circuit it has is for handling a short outage with a day or so to recharge between usage.
This applies as well to some of the deep cycle systems as well. Many of the smart chargers that can be left hooked up to the battery all the time only charge the battery slowly, especially if it's deeply discharged. If you want to use it with a generator running a short time period during the day, you're going to need a more powerful rapid charger, such as a car battery charger that is not suitable for staying connected to the battery 24/7.

Re: battery power?
Arch, once you're done charging check the voltage at the 110 volt outlet. If it's 110 volt or above then plug in a 40 watt bulb and let it light for 8 hours while you check the voltage hourly (or every 2 or 3 hours). Once the voltage dropped below 100 volt then it can't be further used for the S9 Autoset, without recharging. I think.
To check for running an S9 Autoset with humidifier I would plug into the Diehard Portable Power unit a multi receptacles strip and plug into it two 40 watt bulbs.
p.s. my Diehard Platinum Portable Power unit #1150 is waiting at the store to be picked up ($99.99 plus tax).

Yes, we do plan on using the generator all night, might as well run the fridge at the same time ... For those who have not heard a Invertor Honda run ... They are much quieter than you think, it is not like those noisy things you get at a construction rental place ... ALL the homes in our immediate area are "slump block" construction (fancy concrete blocks) about all we hear is if a helecopter flys low overhead (Border Control, or Medi-vac)
Of course when I'm home ... I also have my semi truck ... But it is tight for both my wife and I to sleep in my single bed, and we don't have the Re$med cord for her S9 ...
