disease
I have this disease......I am a mask junkie. I just keep trying more and more. I have a couple that work really good for me now, but now, I am sharing what I have learned with my co workers and family members who are on cpap treatment.
So many people were shown only one or two masks when they started and have no idea that there are lots of different kinds out there.
I am one of those people who have to know that what I am using is the best for me and I can't know that unless I try many masks. Unfortunately, we have to buy them to try them. Oh well, I am worth it and my health is important to me.

1. ComfortCurve - My favorite. I know a lot of people don't like it, but for me it is great.
2. ComfortLite 2 - An excellent mask
3. Ultra Mirage II nasal mask - a comfortable, no nonsense, will work for just about anybody mask.
4. Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask - the most comfortable of the full face masks
5. F&P HC431 - uncomfortable, not my favorite

It is easy to reach big numbers when you are searching.
I am on my second Nasal Aire II, and the second is better than the first, with a little adjustment. I took the prongs off the first one, as they are very soft now, and added to the new side tubes. Seems perfect

That is a difficult question to answer. I gave up counting after about 15 different masks but I have many more. It could be at least three times that number, depending on how you count. I have three Profile Lites. Since they are all the same, do they count as three or one. I have two Air Pilots. I added exhaust holes to one. Later I beveled the holes to quiet the exhaust. After that I plugged all of the holes and installed the vent from my Serenity mask. Does that count as one, two, or five masks? I just say 15+ to simplify things.
It might be denial if you start defining how to count, or it might be reality. I have a respironics simplicity in both small and medium from when I first started cpap five years ago and gave up. I also have a Mirage, or maybe Ultra Mirage, nasal mask in both Small Standard and Small Shallow and a Series 2 in both Small Standard and Small Shallow sizes from that period. But I don't use any of them now. So do they count? Now I have Activa, Swift, UMFF and F&P 431. So I think I have four. Until I get my identity resolved as either a nasal or full-face mask user, I don't think there is any point to getting any more. I would like to try an Aura if it turns out that Rhino Cort could help me more with my stuffed-up-edness, so I need to go to my doctor to get a prescription for that to help resolve the stuffed-up issue. So am I an addict in denial or a realist?

Who knows......Caroline.......Is this a life or death struggle to assert yourself over the contrary contraptions.......OR are you swimming blissfully in de-nile.........
I confess to owning only one.....my trusty F&P 431.......as the saying goes.....'If it ain't broke.......And all I have right now that needs fixing is my cpap bite, which is healing, now that I got some intelligent advice!

I'm glad that you were lucky enough to get it right on the first try. What I may be in denial about is that I have the possibility of being a nasal mask/pillow user, meaning that I am destined for only full-face mask usage, which I admit, I'm not crazy about. I am struggling to get my stuffed-up nose de-stuffed all nite, and I am losing that battle. Once finals are over, I'm going to have to go the doc and get a prescription for rhino-cort. And I'm glad to know your wound is healing. Mine is not--it is getting worse. I will use F&P 431 tonite, as having UMFF on the same place last nite that it bit me the nite before didn't help, and last nite I was too tired to think of that. So let's see...if I submit to the fact that I am only a full-face mask user, I could get my insurance to pay for a comfort-something...so I guess that makes me a mask junkie. I'm glad we solved that problem.

1. SWIFT, first from the DME, picked it mostly because it was the MOST expensive of the ones they had to choose from. Tried it one night, dreadful experience. But I don't blame the swift, just the newness of the whole experience. Took me a week to try cpap and a different mask, which was...
2. UM-II Got used to it, still like it. After a few weeks didn't even notice it was there. Seems very comfortable, and no problems using it.
3. Got a SomnoPlus, it is the quietest of all. Still prefer the UM-II, just feels better.
4. UMFF - still in the wrapper, got it just because some ppl here seem to find it necessary for the really stuffy-nose situations. So far haven't needed to try it.
5. ACTIVA - (sorry bill, I just HAD to know what this thing was.) Have used it 2 nights and don't know anything about it, because I slept the entire two nights with no wake-ups. DRAT! how will I ever know if it's a good mask. I can relate to the "love-sick octopus" description. It does tend to pulsate, just before it goes to sleep. Or me. Did notice a red spot on the bridge of my nose. Have adjusted the head piece back a notch, to put the bridge out a notch. I'll see if that helps. I have more reading to do, I got 120 hits on the search terms "Activa" and "bridge". Any Advice Welcome.

. . . . . . . MY BEST NIGHT SLEEP IN A LONG LONG TIME

I am now shopping for the next, mostly just a compulsive need to try them all sooner or later. (And plus I NEED to spend my replacement mask money every three months. Another market distortion. sorry.) Looking at the CL2 and the CC. (Bill, is that on the "approved list"?) I notice the CL2 has a "pillow", "direct", and "simple cushion" option. Any recommendations? Is this something that can be snapped on after purchase? Looks like I need to decide up front. again, AAW.

I'm thinking the CL2 may be OK. I'll know more in a few days. .Ric wrote: Looking at the CL2 and the CC. (Bill, is that on the "approved list"?)
I think there is an general internet warning on any mask with the word "comfort" in its name though . . .
Regards,
Bill (with a whole new understanding of the word weird)
