Hey Max, I just caught your post from last Friday. I'm so sorry about what you and your wife are going through. Kinda got tears in my eyes as you described watching her health deteriorate and only in her 40's. A lot of us have already commented in previous threads how lucky she is to have you supporting and loving her, and staying soooo on top of the details of her condition and health care. You marvel that she's still functioning as well as she is, and I marvel at your heart and soul. Just wanted to send a little extra support and good wishes your way. Warmly, KG

I would question why your doctor does not want to do the tests. Specifically, T3/T4 and B12.
I think you owe it to yourself to do a little research.
The reason is that she tought te levels were normal so they were not necessary. She, as expected, goes by the book. If a level is within the recomended range, it is good. I will continue to research sleep quality, including blood levels. For Vitamin D, it is easy and cheap enough to take a supplement so I'll do that.
Jay Aitchsee quoted:
Vitamin B12 deficiency causes tiredness, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia. Nerve problems, such as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, can also occur.
Those symptoms do not apply to me.
Jay Aitchsee quoted:
The skin can become dry, cold, rough and scaly. The hair becomes coarse, brittle and grows slowly or may fall out excessively. There is a sensitivity to cold with feelings of being chilly in rooms of normal temperature. It is difficult for a person to sweat and their perspiration may be decreased or even absent even during heavy exercise and hot weather.
I am the opposite of all the symptoms listed above.

I'll keep on trying to improve my sleep.
Thanks,
Ed

Certain areas of the country have high incidences of low levels of D due to lack of sun. I work for a pcp and you'd be amazed how many people we check that come back very low in D, (I'm in PA) If you are very low, an OTC won't cut it. Presciption dosage is much higher than anything you can get otc, usually not taken daily and follow up bw is required.
I'm not saying I think that's your issue, just throwing it out there because you mentioned just picking up an otc.

Michigan would be no better than PA for sun, especially in the winter. Since my vitamin D is within the accepted range, my doctor will not write a prescription. I'll take 2,000 iu OTC per day. My next blood test is mid January.
Thanks,
Ed M.

Thanks. It seems to be in God's hands. She could suffer into her 80's, or go any time. That's part of the difficulty. No one knows. She has a family history of many just dropping dead, but then her mom suffered into her 70's. The "quality vs. quantity" thing is bothersome, either way. We should all appreciate the moments we've been granted and use them wisely and to the best we are able, while we are able. The saga goes on, up and down each day, trending downward. Today, her hands and feet are quite blue, and she says she feels adrenaline surging, but she's up and around. Tough lady.

Oh, sorry...didn't notice you mentioning that it came back within normal limits.
