respironics stock

Post by tomjax » Thu Apr 27, 2006 4:39 pm

Respironics stock had a big day today- up 9.4 pct.

ANyone have any idea why this should be so active?

No complaints though.
I am up about 900.00 for the day.
Maybe I should get a new one.
Both resmed and respironics have been very good for me in the past couple of years. resp- rmd-

I don't own Respironics stock, but I was seriously considering it because I love my new RemStar M Plus. I like buying stock in companies whose products I use. The market reaction to the M series launch might have a lot to do with the stock's upward movement.

I'm no stock market expert, but there are broader trends that might make CPAP-related stocks worthwhile:

1. Heavy recent publicity. CNN, Washington Post, Discovery Health Channel, NBC, etc. have all had major coverage of sleep apnea in the last few months.
2. Figures vary, but many experts believe sleep apnea is under-diagnosed.
3. With Americans, particularly our youth, getting more and more obese, sleep apnea rates may increase in the future as this is one contributing factor.
4. Most CPAP manufacturers also make at-home oxygen devices. With the population aging, sales of oxygen-related equipment should also increase over the years.

Hey, given all the money and grief apnea has caused me, the thought of making a profit of my own off of it just made my day! Thanks, Tomjax!

Tom,

I was looking at this just a few days ago. Tried to find why the increase today and I think it had to do with the announcement of third quarter earnings. I looked at the 52 week graph and it looks like their high of 43.03 was around the first of October and had been sliding since.

Could be because of the anticipated success of the M series CPAPs. Resmed has done very well since the S8 was released.

Todays "spike" was clearly due to the before-the-open earnings/revenue report, combined with the very optimistic outlook:

DME_Guy, do you think the M-series has not already been factored in to the market price? I think it partly has been. Remains to be seen. (I'm not disagreeing with you). RESP has actually underperformed (vs. QQQQ) for the last few weeks since they "affirmed". Amazing the difference a lousy $50mil can do, give or take.

Howdy,

It was due to the earnings beating expectations. We just released metrics on consumer preference, so for all you traders out there looking for an edge, check this out:

Thanks, Johnny.

That's very interesting and informative.
(Somehow I've overlooked that section on your website)
I also found the "State of the Market" section interesting reading.

Best wishes and hoping all is well with all of you.

Are we looking at the same charts?

RESP 0.38

Reuters expected: 0.38
Zacks expected: 0.40
Yr Ago: 0.34
Actual Rev: 267.30
Reuters Expected Rev: 268.58
Yr/Yr: 13.0

The only thing "exciting" that I can see is the y/y growth, combined with the conference call (i.e. pep talk) painted a rosy outlook for '07, which is actually probably somewhat sort of realistic. (be still my heart). Also keep in mind there was something of a general rally yesterday which should be factored in. (Don't mean to dampen the euphoria).

Your charts are interesting.
