Beware of people in the "THE GREAT PILLOW EXCHANGE" thread

Post by king_alvaro » Mon Oct 15, 2012 9:32 pm

Just recently, 2 weeks ago I had a member in this forum with over 3000 posts responded to me to exchange pillows. I was going to give a small fx pillow for exchange in a medium fx pillow. I sent this person a pillow immediately right the next day with delivery confirmation. I sent this person the tracking number. This person told me that my pillow was going to be sent that same day I sent it on.

After 7 days passed I PM the member. Saying that I was waiting for my pillow anxiously. The member didn't responded. Then 4 days later I PM back. Nothing. Yesterday another PM and nothing. I kept checking this persons log ins. And it shows that this person has log in into this website everyday. So, I know this person is getting my PM's. This person is just ignoring me.

So time ago. I had a member PM to trade. But since this person only had about 2 posts. I decided not to trade with this member because I was afraid of not getting anything. Well I thought with somebody with a great reputation wouldn't do that, well I am wrong.

I am pretty sure this person I am talking about will see this post. I don't want to say the user name.

Just be careful for all you people that trade in "THE GREAT PILLOW EXCHANGE."

Why don't you want to say the name?

I had a similar experience. I also had trouble calling the culprit out, and certainly couldn't bring myself to cite him by name. Why? Because the allegation is so damning, so embarassing to the jerk and potentially so devastating to him/her that I couldn't bring myself to do him so much damage.

In my case I offered to trade a brand new, unused Swift FX with documentation and original packing material for another mask I wanted to try, provided it too was in the same condition. I was told it had only been used for an hour so I did the trade anyway. He flat out lied to me. The mask stank from a humid, mouldy environment, had obvious signs of extensive use over a long period of time, and there was no original packing material or instruction brochure.

So I understand king_alvero's reticience. And I second his cautionary, "Beware." Perhaps even wait to receive the trade if you sense a reason to be cautious. When people do a trade, they have an obligation to remember that they are on the honor system. Have some personal honor and take responsibility. To do otherwise is detestable and displays one's character deficit.

That's right, it is simply an allegation.

And quite frankly, since on the surface we have
king_alvaro wrote:somebody with a great reputation
and over 3000 posts versus somebody with 60 posts, (25% of which involve selling stuff), I'm really looking at this with a critical eye and wondering what the underlying issues really are.

Consequently, "IMHO" we needs to hold the torches and pitchforks until

because this can get ugly really fast, with, at least at this point, no clear- cut evidence to do so.

I agree with holding off on the pitchforks, and releasing the name. Maybe there is a good reason for the non-response, so some further investigation is warranted before jumping to conclusions. Not sure how to help, but maybe an email to the administrators would be a good start? Find the link to "The Team" to find out who they are. An independent person may be able to find out more ...

As an aside, there has been some meanness on this forum recently, which IMHO detracts from the value and "supportiveness" of the forum. From personal experience I know that when one has sleep apnea one does not always think (or type) rationally. As a result, I know that we perhaps all need to be a little tolerant of others who may be experiencing one of those "less rational" moments.

I can't imagine the administrators would, or should want to bother moderating pillow trade disputes.
There was an earlier dispute that was resolved here and it was just a misunderstanding over the condition of the pillows.
Not even sending the item is another matter. I would give the member another day or 2 to respond and then name them for the benefit of the other members.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for my opinion. But who cares if he/she has a great reputation? Why are you protecting their rep when they took advantage of you? Post the name. The rest of us want to know. If I get scammed by this person, then who is to blame? Me or you?

I would be carefull......one of the posters daughters was on the other day and she said her mom was in the hospital and she hoped everyone that had ongoing trades with her would please hang on a bit. Benefit of the doubt is better than full out clash, this could be her, or the same or similar thing could be going on. Make sure you have checked every avenue before you dive in with both feet.
Good luck
Nan

Nan - that's fine. But "I" still don't know this person. I'm fair. Tell the story - she's out of commission for awhile, etc. But just let us know.

Sorry Jen I must disagree with you...If I was sick or in the hospital or away on a holiday, no one could tell you where I was. I could not read your pm's to me and I could not forwarn you that I was unable to get to my computer. If someone lives alone and they end up sick or in the hospital...who's going to tell you..there's no good fairy keeping track of folks is there.
I think that there are enough posts here to forewarn the person that did or didn't send the traded item to get this thing cleared up......IF they are able. If the person is on here every day they will read this thread and either clear up the misunderstanding or wait to hear their name published, no need to go bull headed on and embarrasse yourself too.

It's easy to determine if private messages have been read or not.
If they are in the "sent" box...they have been opened.
If still sitting in the "out" box...they have not been opened.
If still sitting in the out box....I would give a person the benefit of the doubt as to possibility of unforeseen circumstances popping up.
If sitting in the sent box...I would be mad as you know what.

I don't want to mention the name because...

If I contact the administration of the site, they cant do anything because I can't prove that this person didn't send me the pillow. It is just an allegation, nothing else. Also, if I bring this up there is a chance that the administrator might terminate ""THE GREAT PILLOW EXCHANGE." They could ban any one from trading or selling on this site. They actually loose money because we are trading instead of buying pillows. I will just get over it, I didn't' loose much.

Oh well just another lesson in life.

According to this the person involved has been to this forum everyday so there is no excuse for not answering.

No, it means someone has been there using that account. It could be a family member checking in. And they might have more important things on their mind then your pillows.

Far, far better would have been to start a thread "Looking for xxxx, please contact me" then the family member or anyone who knows them could have responded in a non aggressive manner. Just why assume a rip off within a short period of time, especially of a long time poster?
