New Cpap'r Quick Question
New Cpap'r Quick Question
I was just Diagnosed with Hypersomnia due to OSA, And I must say thank god for this Machine. It just sucked that during the sleep study I was able to finally sleep for a night on the machine, then had to wait a week to actually get one.
Oh well, my Question. I was able to pick a resmed S9 Elite CPAP earlier, I havent downloaded any software or anything yet to look at the data, but I know during my test they said i had 95 episodes/hr, now when i woke up today, The machine said I used it a total of 6 hours(its all the time i had left to sleep after appointment), but it said that i only slept 2.9hours. All I know is i woke up even after the 6 hours and felt better then sleeping 17hours. Just curious why the mahcine said i slept only half the time that i did.

Re: New Cpap'r Quick Question
You're reading the hours off the machine's display? Did you sleep past noon and then check the time? I ask because the S9's reset to zero each day at noon. So if you forget to check your hours before noon it will look like you slept ZERO hours. If you slept in late, past noon, I'm guessing the machine will only show the sleep hours after noon. Is that what happened in your case?

Yes, I was looking at the display because I havent had time to install any software or really play yet. I work nights so I did goto sleep at about 10:30am, then woke up shortly before 5pm.
Re: New Cpap'r Quick Question
That explains it! Once you get software downloaded you'll be able to easily view on your computer the entire "night" no matter what time you went to sleep and woke up.maddyn wrote:Yes, I was looking at the display because I havent had time to install any software or really play yet. Re: New Cpap'r Quick Question
Your machine has a clock in the clinical setup menu. You might want to check it to make sure that it is set to the correct time.
Even accounting for the Noon reset you should have had 12 to just before 5 PM or 4 something hours show up and not less than 3 hours.
ResMed starts a new day at Noon so the data gets reset to zero at noon each day per the machine's clock.
Makes the reports a little weird looking for night shift workers. Makes the compliance usage hours look weird also.
Some people purposely set the machine clock off so that all their sleep time gets put in one "day" instead of being broken up by the Noon thing.
You can use SleepyHead software (links in my signature line) if you wish and it has an option so you can alter the split time and combine your reports.
You can also use ResScan but I don't know of any way to combine split days with ResScan.

Re: New Cpap'r Quick Question
IMHO the resmed 9 user manual needs to make mention of the clock & that the overnight information resets at noon.
I sent an e-mail to customer service about it over the weekend. No response yet

At least the clock on the S9 can be reset, even it has to be done through the Clinician's menu.Denial Dave wrote:IMHO the resmed 9 user manual needs to make mention of the clock & that the overnight information resets at noon.

And at least the machine uses a "local noon to local noon" time frame for reporting the data.
Pity us poor PR users: The clock is set at the factory for some approximation of Greenwich Meridian time and there is NO way to reset the clock even through the clinician's menu. (Mine is set about 10 minutes fast.) The clock battery is known to loose time as it ages. And the LCD data (which is piss-poor compared to the S9's) updates at noon GMT time. So if noon GMT time occurs during your normal sleep period, tough luck: The LCD will never show you properly updated data including all of your sleep data for the night.
And yes, I have complained to PR about these problems.

This is good to know, I have the choice between the S9 Auto Set and the PR 60 series Auto. More check marks are adding up in the ResMed columnrobysue wrote:At least the clock on the S9 can be reset, even it has to be done through the Clinician's menu.Denial Dave wrote:IMHO the resmed 9 user manual needs to make mention of the clock & that the overnight information resets at noon.

Re: New Cpap'r Quick Question
ResMed has their own design drawbacks as well.
ResMed s9 subtracts the "intentional leak" from their leak data, so you can't see when you plug the exhaust vent on the mask and may miss some minor leaks.
ResMed S9 runs on 24V, so you have to buy their expensive DC-DC converter if you want to run off of battery.
ResMed S9 throws away some of the data after 7 or 30 days even though there's plenty of room on the SD card.
I think S9 vs. PRS1 is about a tossup, though.
