Miss Lilly To The Rescue!

Post by OceanGoingGal » Tue Oct 02, 2012 5:57 pm

This afternoon I took a nap, It was not planned and I fell asleep without my c-pap while watching tv. I was not asleep very long when Miss Lilly (My Kitty) was standing on my chest and batting at my face. I think I was going into an apnea and she was trying to wake me up. She has never done that before but then I rarely sleep without my c-pap. I can only guess that that is what she was doing. What do you all think? Any similar experiences? I will add that this cat is 15 years old and I have had her since she was a kitten of 10 weeks.

I believe it. My tabby is who twigged my Dr to the possibilty of me having OSA. I told my dr, she woke me up every night between 2-3 by rubbing and nuzzling my nose. My dr who also has cat said lets see if there is a reason why. Since being on CPAP, all my reports show events between 2-3 every morning. I have had her for 12 years and she is very bonded to me.

Hmmm... Going to have to look closer at Sleepyheads reports. My cat always wakes me up at 5 am. I just thought he wanted to be fed.
I also have used a night guard for twelve years.

I used to have a cat that would wake me in the middle of the night by pawing at my face. Then he would leave once I was awake. I finally realized that he was probably reacting to snortimg or other odd sounds. Once I was awake and sounding normal, he would leave. He died a little over a year ago. Best nurse cat I ever had. Over time, I had more problems at night, so him being gone probably led to my sleep apnea getting worse.

I have two cats currently who are very bonded and sweet, but not too bright. They probably think I am purring when I snore. No help from them at all.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Or she saw that your nose and/or mouth was unprotected and she had a chance to smother you

I spoke to a woman recently whose dogs played and frolicked on the bed until the CPAP went on. Then they curled up and went to sleep. Once when she was up late into the wee hours working on some project, one of the dogs drug her mask out to her and dropped it at her feet.

I'm in the middle of lunch at my home computer... went to the fridge to grab a drink and came back to find my cat sharing my lasagna. Glad I caught her anyway!

The reason ypou were able to catch the cat was probably because he/she did not have a guilty conscience.
Cats often feel entitled to our food.
Dogs are different. I was missing some food after I came back--and the dog was hiding.

Maybe you don't have apnea. Maybe the cat's been trying to kill you in your sleep by blocking your away. The CPAP mask gets in the way, and that's why you get relief with the CPAP mask.

Several people have reported their cats "accidentally" stepping on their machines during the night and turning them off.

Maybe we've stumbled onto something here.

I suspect a vast left-wing feline conspiracy.

ROFL! I'm sitting here reading all of the responses and laughing as I woke up this morning to my younger cat with her nose pressed to the outside of my nasal pillow mask. She was enjoying the air that blows out the back of it. It was so funny that I started to laugh so I probably messed up my numbers this morning

Nan, Recently we had a client take a dog on a cruise with her it was listed as an apnea dog. The cruise line insisted that the owner produce the dogs registration as a certified service dog. They have had many many people using any excuse to bring their dogs aboard. The only exception is a certified working service dog.
Everyone, Thanks so much for your responses and all the laughs. Miss Lilly never fails to make me giggle at some of her antics. She is a funny kitty. She will smell chocolate on my breath and really try to get in my mouth to get some. I usually have to smudge a bit on my finger and let her lick it off. Chocolate seems to be one of the few "people foods" she likes. She likes ice cream too. Thanks again for your responses.
