OT: Fenofibrate seemed to make my sleep quality worse

Post by Suddenly Worn Out » Sat Sep 29, 2012 10:01 am

I got put on this cholesterol/triglyceride drug recently, high dose of 160 mg. The first day went OK, the second day, my sleep became AWFUL! It was not me, had 0 leak rate, I woke up feeling like I got no sleep. I have taken a few drugs on CPAP that really seemed to screw up the effect I get from CPAP. I have noticed my pressures have gone up just a little on it, but not much and I dont think enough to make a difference in how I feel.

Fenofibrate seems to make me feel...depressed feeling a little. Or something. Just plain sh**ty feeling.

Anybody heard of fenofibrate worsening OSA or causing worsening of depression/anxiety? I feel kinda tired on the stuff.

thanks,

Eric

It is possible that there is no connection, that you just had a bad night;
as this does not sound like one of the usual side effects listed.
More information is here:

Check out this article. You'll find statins and fibrates on the list.

I have been on fenofibrate (Tricor) Lipitor and Lovaza for about 2 years now. The first year was pre cpap and I do not feel tired now. The main issue I have had with the fenofibrate has been with my bowels, that stuff can lock up up good and tight if you are not careful.

That's a picture I'd like to dismiss from my imagination!

Good article. Thanks. And I have experienced fatigue from proton pump inhibitors as well (Prilosec). That article is the first one Ive seen from a reputable source that mentions PPIs as a possible cause of fatigue. I have to admit though, Prilosec is an effective drug and has pulled me out of some tough stitches in the past.

The Fenofibrate didn't seem to have any poor effects on me, however, the simvastatin did (looking back) have a negative effect on my REM sleep - diminishing it. I am now on astervastatin or something like that (spelling)... Not sure yet how it is effecting me other than I have been harder to get out of bed in the mornings but that could be the clonazepam and/or too high of a dosage of melatonin that I am currently working on reducing.

My sleep quality got genuinely better when I continued using CPAP diligently and:

1) lost close to fifty pounds
2) cut back on my klonopin dosage
3) exercised aerobically like a bat out of hell on a regular basis

This is my personal "combo." I was doing decent back in mid 2008 thru 2009 but after that I gained the weight back, went back to my old klonopin dosages and stopped workout out consistently. Although I did continue to exercise, just not daily.

Ive found that most medications negatively affect my sleep. One that does not is SSRI antidepressants. One that negatively affects my sleep is testosterone (Androgel). Another that decreases sleep quality is benadryl. And any type of benzo, forget it my sleep quality is worse on it.
