Have you named your faithful friend

Post by Indiana » Mon Sep 24, 2012 12:18 pm

I am new here. Situated in the UK. I have been loitering a bit... I found you seem to be upbeat and have some sense of humour.

I was diagnosed years ago but due to an administrative error and then personal circumstances, treatment lapsed, I thought I coped but when I developed insomnia, taking 3 - 5 hours to sleep and the suspected sleep apnoea I suddenly felt I needed help. Met with a fantastic London Consultant who is sorting the insomnia and I will know for definite on Thursday that I need Cpap.

I have been told to go in with a positive attitude and look on the machine as a best friend.

I wondered if you name either yourself with your mask on (One lady is Lady Top Gun.. I like that) and whether you name your machine. They say its a good thing to name it.. it is more personal than a bit of technology.

I thought of calling it Colin (for UKers that as in Firth.. now who would refuse such a bed partner). I am laughing at some of the names I am thinking of. Its helping me to come to terms.

Has yours got a name?

I'm new too (in Canada). This is my second week with a CPAP, so I'm still trying to find a mask that works. Right now, I am trying out the Pilairo: just now I rinsed it off and hung the tube over a glass to dry. It looks like an alien out of a Ridley Scott movie--like those tube aliens in the movie Prometheus. If I keep it, I could call it that . I really like the Pilairo, actually; I've had about 6 hours sleep on it now for two nights in a row and I fall asleep pretty quickly (unlike with the Swift, which kept me up for TWO hours before I could fall asleep with it ).

No, didn't name it but did cover the machine and humidifier with a skin from Skinit so it would look a bit less industrial.

Yeh i guess, my lifeline,, or my hose. Depends on my mood. I tell myself "time to hose up". I wouldnt be here
without that machine. I fell asleep one night in the past six months without it and seriously paid the price. I wont
get into the gory details.

I haven't given it a name, but codingqueen gave me an idea: 'Joe Blow'

No, I haven't named my car or my private parts either, as many seem to do.
