Obstructed Airway

Post by Mike Grasso » Wed Sep 19, 2012 8:36 pm

So the first week is coming to a close and I have to say I'm quite happy.
It must be something to do with SCUBA Diving for so long but the mask doesn't bother me, once i fitted it properly.
In the beginning there were slight leaks up into my eyes that were annoying, a change of mask size cured that.
I've been averaging 7.5 to 9 hours a night, waking up 2-3 times in the beginning and now just once.
I did have to get a heated airway and play with the temperature and humidity, but that's good now.
Dropped down to less than 4 AHI last night with 3.5 of it OA.
Zero Apnea events all week and less than 1 Hypo now.
Talk about energy! It's day and night.

Thanks for the PM's and guidance.

So my question is what is OA and how do I lower it?

Mike

Glossary link for explanation of the terms you see on the reports.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... r_Glossary

In general obstructive events (obstructive apneas and hyponeas) are treated with either a small increase in pressure or sometimes if someone is using EPR they can reduce or turn off EPR and the overall average pressure will increase a bit and sometimes be enough to reduce the obstructive events.
It all depends on what is showing on the reports, what pressure(s) are being used, when the events are showing up and are there enough of them to be worrysome. If they are all clustered together at the beginning of the night they might not even be real.

Thanks, I shut off the EPR and will see if it makes a difference...
